Offering free WiFi throughout the property, the non-smoking hotel features a hot spring bath. Our stay at Akaishiya Ryokan was truly the highlight of our month-long honeymoon in Japan. From the moment we arrived—amid heavy snowfall and quite late due to the lack of direct trains to Kinosaki Onsen—we were met with unparalleled hospitality. The ryokan’s location is ideal, just a short 5-minute walk from Kinosaki Onsen Station, making it incredibly convenient even in the snow. Upon arrival, the reception team went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Despite the late hour, the receptionist promptly replied to our inquiries during transit and stayed up late to personally check us in—a level of service you rarely find elsewhere, especially in Japan, where many stays have fixed reception hours. Our room was stunning, offering a serene view of the river that was even more magical in the snow. The atmosphere was cozy, clean, and well-appointed with all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. Breakfast at Akaishiya was absolutely delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Each morning, we were treated to a delightful spread of traditional Japanese dishes, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to start our day of exploring the town’s famous onsen. The ryokan’s attention to detail made our stay even more comfortable. They provided yukatas, boots, and umbrellas for us to use while going around town, which was incredibly helpful given the heavy snow. It allowed us to enjoy the charm of Kinosaki Onsen without any inconvenience. What truly set Akaishiya apart was the exceptional service. The receptionist, in particular, deserves special recognition. Not only did he assist us during check-in and throughout our stay, but he also went out of his way to help with our luggage transport. Since the ryokan didn’t arrange it, he personally went with us, helped bring our bags to Family Mart, and helped process the transport. This level of care and dedication is something we’ll never forget.

The hotel is a modern hotel in traditional Ryokan style. It is part of the Dormy Inn chain and is excellent. The rooms all over look the river estuary. The hot springs baths in the hotel are excellent It is not in central Kinosaki but they have frequent shuttle minibus to town. If you would like western style breakfast they can offer but you need give the hotel notice.
Very clean and comfortable and good location with a lot of hot springs, free noodles and ice cream for midnight snacks
Awesome hot springs hotel in Kyoto. Location is good, 10 min walk to the Kyoto Station. Has everything you need in the hotel. Highly recommend the breakfast buffet they got so much food. Appreciate that they give you a passcode for the women’s laundry as well as the onsen to make women feel safer. Whole facility very clean.
Located only a couple short streets away from the Nara park complex. Private onsen times available. Typical Ryokan style rooms, but kept very clean. Lovely staff who speak great English. Would definitely stay again.
It is very clean! And right across from the station. The individual bed sections offer great privacy. The onsen (hot springs) across the train station is great. There is plenty to see in this "maguro" city! Great WiFi.
the quality of the food was amazing - the variety of foods was top class - the three types of onsen were very enjoyable. I particularly liked the outdoor onsen - the staff who helped us catch buses were very helpful- the location right on the bus route and right on the river with the hot springs was wonderful.
Very comfortable and cozy, but also modern Ryokan. The accommodation was very clean, also the private Onsen. The beds were super comfortable and the whole atmosphere was just great.
A welcoming and cosy place in a beautiful spot where you can dig your own hot spring in river banks, whilst also having two private onsen to boot.
Great location and very clean facilities. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We were able to book 40min private onsen inside the ryokan - amazing! Tea is offered in a lovely box tray in the room. Very quiet location with good restaurants around. 5min walk from the Nara park
Gorgeous ryokan with good onsens. It was my first traditional Japanese hotel and onsen, so I was very impressed by hospitality, kaiseki dinner, the view, the room with tatami, yukata and hot springs. Totally recommend it!
