The rooms were big, comfortable, clean and had good a/c. The value for money was superb in comparison to the price of other accommodation in the area. It is really close to Wilpattu National Park so is a great place to stay before a safari.

The rooms are comfortable, the location is close by the willpatu safari and they fix everything for you. In the evening we had a dinner together with other people! Such a nice place!

Lovely tranquil place in the middle of nature. Really allows you to switch off and relax. The hosts are friendly and helpful in making arrangements for activities etc, my full day safari in Wilpattu was just amazing! The home-cooked food is superb.

The location near to the entrance is fantastic if you want to go on safari, if that’s not your thing, there’s no place for you to stay here. The rooms are also very spacious and with a very comfortable bed.

Close to Wilpattu, easy to sort out safari with owner, cooked dinner was traditional and was lovely. Facilities were good.

Beautiful location looking out on to rice fields, great bungalows with terrace, absolutely everything ran smoothly for a fabulous safari at Wilpattu, all arranged by our hosts. We set off at dawn, in an open top keep that picked us up, fully laden with snacks & meals for the day. Only minutes from the entrance to the park, we were one of the first jeeps in and saw everything including leopards and sloth bear. In the evening we sat with other families and discussed our wonderful day.

What a beautiful place, owner is lovely, food fantastic and the individual lodges are brilliant, quiet and all you need

The food and service at The Backwater's Lodge was exceptional and even though we missed our flight connection they rearranged everything without any issue. I recommend a swim in the river after a day safari!

The lodge is beautiful, amazing food, staff were very helpful with organising the safari and taxi to our next town. The room and ensuite very clean and spacious. Overall excellent stay and good value for money.

The host is a well known bioligist who build a few lodges next to the national park entrance and situated in the rice fields. Do not expect any luxury. The money earned go’s after costs back to nature preservation. GO HERE!!
