We can highly recommend Fern Hill Cabins. Chathura and his family are warm and welcoming hosts who are always happy to help with any questions or requests – whether it’s organizing a TukTuk, arranging transportation to your next destination, or anything else you might need. Our cabin was new, modern, and spread over two floors – spotlessly clean, and with a breathtaking view over Ella. A nice bonus: we were able to enjoy a cozy movie night with the projector in the cabin. On request, Chathura can arrange a delicious dinner from a nearby restaurant, served right on the terrace in front of the cabin. Breakfast was fresh, varied, and lovingly prepared. Another big plus: the hike to Ella Rock starts right from the cabin. All in all, a wonderful stay!

The quite and extremely cosy place near the centre, but really caim without city noise. Sounds of nature all around. Angel, the owner, is a very communicative and pleasant person. All is new and very comfortable. Sleepy bed with fresh linen, hot water and a lounge to have a really great rest after climbing and wandering around Ella. Please, don't loose your hospitability and welcoming character. I will come back for sure🌹

Amazing private relaxing spot with unbeatable view of nine arch bridge. Hosts were amazing and cooked a wonderful breakfast every morning. Short Tuktuk drive to main town but was very nice to be away. Was very peaceful. Hosts were great at assisting with recommendations and taking us to places. They were so kind and generous. Would definitely come back!

We picked Nethsara because it was a family run accommodation just outside the centre. We thought it would be friendly, peaceful with great food. We also wanted to meet and support local people rather than just stay in a big hotel. Nethsara was this and much more. The room was spotless, had a great shower, a fridge and a kettle. It had a fan though we didn't need it. Madusha was friendly and hospitable. She cooked a great Sri Lankan breakfast which was so big we had enough fruit to eat in the evening. Upon request, she made us dial and hoppers. She also did our washing for a good price. She put us in touch with a lovely lad who became our tuk-tuk driver for the duration ( he charged a very fair rate and can be trusted to give you a price that undercuts other local drivers- just go with him. He is called Kavi) The view is really beautiful and you can see Ella Temple in the distance-- go, it is fabulous.

For our group of six occupying three rooms, this was a wonderful place we truly enjoyed. It’s located outside Ella, but the 6 km walk along the railway is easy and filled with great views; the train ride is also a memorable experience and highly recommended. The accommodation feels authentic, with beautiful vistas and the gentle sounds of nature and local life. The host and his family are extremely friendly and helpful; we always felt safe and welcome. The owner even took us to a nearby tea factory for a fantastic private tour. Breakfast was a typical local meal; we apologise again to the host for not fully appreciating it. We highly recommend booking this place – every morning here is magical! 😊

Sat on the train writing this and genuinely feel sad to have left this place. Felt like a home away from home (with better food and views). The whole family are so so kind and we felt like and extension of their family during our stay. The accommodation is lovely with your own separate bedroom and bathroom (even mini fridge) with the most beautiful terrace overlooking the hills. We had some of the best food of our whole trip here. The breakfasts were huge and delicious and they were very flexible with timings so we could get out early for walks! We also did a cooking class with the family which was a highlight and learnt how to cook so many dishes! The son gave us a tuktuk ride to the beginning of our walks and to the train station at 0630am! (and even found out for us that the train was running from the next town instead) We also rented a scooter for the day which was a great way to explore the surrounding area and they gave us lots of pointers about where to go! Cannot fault this place at all. If you are lucky enough they have availability on your dates, definitely don’t hesitate to stay!
