The experience was perfect! Staff super friendly (the will help you with everything you have to ask), one of the cleanest place I’ve stayed in, super quiet and location is good if you want to stay close to the Vatican and castel Sant’Angelo. Nice restaurant just in front of it plus taxi and bus station, stores and bars right behind the corner.

The hotel is close to the Metro station and to bus stations that connect you to Termini train station. You also have shops around, a good pinsa place (Pinsa 'mpò), nice bars. We were very happy with the fact that even if our windows were facing the street is was nice and quiet at night and we could rest. Hotel was very clean, and staff really nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet is 50% sweet stuff - so if it's your first time in Italy expect this. The stuff they had were really good, just that if you prefer more salty things the choice is lower, but you will definitely have a choice.

Everything about this hotel was exceptional. The design is stunning and so thoughtfully connected to the nearby botanical gardens. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. Last but not least, though the turtles were sleeping through the winter, Luna, the adorable hotel cat, added such a charming and unique touch.

The Vatican

The world’s smallest state is also one of its most attraction-packed spots. As the centre of the Catholic Church, Vatican City is chock-full of awe-inspiring religious architecture and artistic treasures. Must-sees include the imposing St Peter’s Basilica – so vast that the Statue of Liberty could fit comfortably under its dome – and the mesmerising frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.

After paying $80 for two time-specific tickets, there would have been at least a thousand cued up to enter with thousands already in the complex. It was a "cattle drive" with attendant rushing the mob along. I am a former museum director and this was my worst museum experience. BUT it is the only way to see the Sistine Chapel - also wall-to-wall people.

Reserve tickets especially for the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, be at least 1. hours before your reserved time and have comfortable walking shoes. Do not visit the Basilica on Wednesday and Sunday mornings ( closed )before at least 1pm - unless you want to see the Pope from the balcony at noon. Be ready for very long queues.

If you want to see the Sistine Chapel , just be prepared that you're going to spend four times as much time getting there parading through the Vatican museum , which has all sorts of stuff that I didn't necessarily associate with the Vatican.

You pay hefty amount to get treated like cattle.

You pay hefty amount to get treated like cattle. You can barely walk inside the museum as there are 1000s of people in the same room as you. In case of an emergency, you will probably be injured, or even worse. Its only about the Vatican making money.

The apartment is located in a quiet and pleasant neighborhood. Communication with the host was professional and prompt. The Wi-Fi connection worked perfectly. There is a supermarket just a few steps away. The Vatican is about a 15-minute walk from the property. Other historical sites can be reached within a 40-minute walk or easily by public transportation. The metro station is about a 10-minute walk away.

A delightful stay at Casa Nuccia. Tucked away in peaceful Aurelio yet perfectly connected to the Vatican and Rome’s historic center, it felt like the ideal base for exploring the city. The apartment itself was spotless, stylishly modern, and thoughtfully arranged for comfort. The owner’s warmth and genuine hospitality elevated the experience even further. A charming retreat that blends convenience, elegance, and true Roman heart.

The apartment is very tidy, clean, and in an excellent location — very close to the Vatican and just a few meters from the metro station. We didn’t use public transport, as Rome can easily be explored on foot. And Claudia is an excellent host — very kind and always ready to help. We would gladly stay here again.

The hotel was clean, spacious, and location is gold. It is only on first floor so it's easy to access. 5 minutes from the Vatican. Room been cleaned everyday, which does not happen in every hotel in Rome. The owners were very helpful and welcoming. For me the most important is that the bed was extremely confortable. For sure I will go back again for another stay ❤️

I had a wonderful stay! The host was very kind and welcoming. The area is quiet and safe, yet very close to the Vatican, with great bus connections and about a 10-minute walk to Lepanto metro station. Upon arrival, I found coffee, tea, and a bottle of water waiting for me — a lovely touch. The apartment was clean, well equipped, with all the necessary amenities, and very peaceful. Perfect for relaxing after a day exploring Rome. Highly recommended!

check out the hotels for your ideal location, you get very good value for money from smaller hotels/ bed and breakfast/ guest houses etc. Use the hop on hop off buses, buy tickets to the main tourist attractions in advance, unless you like to wait in line a lot! Vatican is manic, I went in March and it was starting to get busy, I can imagine it would be very hot and uncomfortable in the height of the season.

If you take the time to go through the streets north of the Vatican you can find many small stores where the locals shop. As well as the popular brands and designer labels these streets are full of market stalls with lots of bargains and lovely small deli's and cafes that sell many wonderful local goodies. Great restaurants in this area too, well worth spending a few hours of the day finding a treasure or two.

Get a 48-hour pass on one of the "hop on, hop off" sightseeing bus services. Many of them also offer "skip the line" tickets for certain sights. These tickets are worth every cent. There are tourists waiting in long lines everywhere, which will waste a lot of your time and energy. Rome is an intense tourist destination with much to see. Plan well, do research and be prepared to spend extra on special services. You will need at least 5 days to a week to truly see most of the major landmarks. Just the Vatican Museum offers so much that you could easily spend 3 days inside and still not truly see most of it.

As it's Rome there will always be tourists everywhere but DO NOT go with any tour group guaranteeing to skip lines, the queues are never as bad as they look. We were told a "5 hour queue for Vatican and the Sistine chapel" but if we joined a tour we can go straight in...for a €50 fee. We opted out and queued and were in and out of the Vatican, Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel within 2.5 hours all for a quarter of the price (student and EU citizen discounts). The same goes for the colosseum. Go at your own pace and avoid the scammers. The hotel had basic tourist maps which were perfect and we easily found our way. But we did find there were always less people between 12-1 as they had gone to find food by then.

The Colisseum and the Vatican are probably the main attractions, but there are dozens of monuments, museums, gallaries, fountains and churches that all offer a piece of ancient or modern history. Even the roads and walls and buildings seem to tell a story about one of the most preserved ancient cities in the world.
