It’s almost always over-crowded and loud, more now, with the streets lines with food and souvenir stalls. Visit the lesser frequented Japanese pagoda in the vicinity. It's mostly not for non-buddhists as there is nothing worth visiting or experiencing for non-buddhist tourists. This area is a buddhist holy cite, with buddhist temples, park, ancient ruins, museum etc. Also, the place is rife with local people trying to dupe the tourists. This is one of the great sites in India and the museum is also one of the greatest in the country. Unfortunately, unless you book and pay online, you can not get in! They will not issue you a ticket on the spot and will not accept a cash payment. If you do not have an Indian bank account payment is difficult so you might have to pay a shopkeeper to do the whole booking online and the ASI website continually crashes. Good luck.
