You can only leave the grounds twice which is impossible if you go to the grounds first as this counts as one entry and then a second after you visit the palace. Do not overestimate how much of the estate you can cover in a day; it is vast! We noticed that they hire out golf buggies and, in hindsight, they’re an extremely good idea although we don’t know the rental fee. We went on Bastille Day (14 July) so there were fireworks at night. It was not particularly well organised. I strongly suggest you take a folding chair and a picnic. The Palace of Versailles was only a couple of minutes walk. The train station and pubs and restaurants only minutes away too. The apartment was very clean and fully equipped for all our needs.
