The Fish and Jandal is a beautiful, self-contained (one bedroom) apartment, located in McLeod Bay, Whangarei Heads, 26 km from Whangarei Town Centre. The air-conditioned spacious apartment is seconds from the beach and has amazing unobstructed views of the bay. It is easy to pop down to the grassy bank by the water for an evening drink as you watch the sunset. It is a “home away from home” with a fully equipped kitchen (including pantry essentials, a standard size fridge/freezer, wall oven, ceramic cooktop, and a microwave). The open plan lounge/dining area has a dining table, a work desk, a leather sofa, a velvet wingback chair, a flat-screen TV (Sky including Movies and Sport), and bi-fold doors that open onto the apartment's sun terrace/deck with outdoor furniture & BBQ. There is a queen bed in the bedroom and a King Single bed in the lounge, along with a spacious bathroom with shower and a separate laundry room with its own washing machine, washing line and drying rack (owners are happy to dry your clothes in their dryer upstairs when required). There is also good cell phone coverage. Complimentary unlimited WiFi, free use of a BBQ, 2-person kayak, life jackets and snorkel gear is provided. Host will welcome guests with a complimentary glass of wine/beer on arrival (chocolates on the bed). If you are lucky, you will see dolphins, seals and orca in the bay and hear various bird calls in the evening including Kiwi (often in our backyard given that Whangarei Heads now have over 1,000 Kiwi!). Please note: As the owners Jacqueline and John live in the upstairs (which is completely separate) there may be some minimal noise (muffled footsteps). We leave you completely alone but are usually available throughout your stay should you require anything or have any questions. It is a magic spot and we would love for you to relax and enjoy your well deserved break or holiday! Hopefully you will see a dolphin, seal or Orca (in the bay out front) or hear a Kiwi (in our garden). If you are really lucky you may even see a kiwi.... There are so many beautiful coastal walks to explore and great fishing spots! And, my favourite beach (Ocean Beach), is only a 10 minute drive away. It is a popular surfing beach for the locals and has beautiful white sand and sand dunes. An ideal spot to soak up sun, relax, have a splash (or surf ) and go for a walk to see the scenic views from various magnificent viewpoints. We really enjoy living in Whangarei Heads where we can walk the various scenic walking tracks, swim, kayak and go fishing! My husband greatly enjoys fishing and goes out at every opportunity to catch fresh fish. Sometimes there is enough fish caught to enable us to give our guests some fresh fish! We have everything you need for a great get-away or holiday.

McLeod Bay is one of the most popular and picturesque bays along the scenic coast of Whangarei Heads peninsula. It is the bay that has the Mt Manaia which is a popular walking track for visitors to Whangarei Heads. It is a very safe community with an ever changing view of the Bay (from boats, fisherman, and other water activities). Close to many stunning scenic coastal and mountain walks, a marine reserve, and a beautiful surfing beach (Oceans Beach) with its white sand dunes. Perfect for a wonderful escape/holiday/break or rest. Often dolphins, seals and orca can be seen in the bay (guests have been known to watch dolphins in the bay as they have their breakfast on the deck of The Fish and Jandal. The Fish and Jandal is within walking distance to a cafe/takeaway, and only 6 minutes’ drive away from a supermarket, gym, hairdresser, bakery, café, bottle store, and Indian restaurant/takeaway. Also, the fabulous Parua Bay Tavern (a popular, family friendly, reasonably priced tavern) is only a 10 minute drive away. Please note: Guests may wish to arrive before evening if unfamiliar with NZ roads as there is limited road lighting along some sections of Whangarei Heads Road.
