The Hokianga boasts beautiful surroundings and endless options for explorers to enjoy.
Kohukohu has an eclectic mix of residents boasting a large number of artists, photographers, sculptors & crafters. The local gallery “Village Arts” displays only local artists and has ever changing exhibitions to enjoy.
The Village Shop (Kohukohu) is open every day and has a good selection of provisions - for groceries we would recommend doing a big shop at Kerikeri or Kaitaia but for day to day essentials the shop in Kohukohu or across the water at Rawene are adequate. The Village shop does not sell alcohol but a quick trip over as a foot passenger to Rawene & the shop by the ferry has a vast selection of wine & beer.
The Kohukohu Café offers breakfast/brunch & lunch menu served Monday-Friday until 11am. We can highly recommend the fish & chips & homemade pies.
To the West of Kohukohu is the glorious, rugged beach at Mitimiti, a 45 minute drive with many gravel roads.
Opononi & Omapere are a short ferry crossing away and there you can enjoy coastal walks with breathtaking views with the promise of delicious local food by the sea.
