The Essential UNESCO Trail (1 Hour) Krishna Mandir: The iconic stone temple right in the main square. Go in the evening to see the light-up. Patan Museum: Located within the former Malla Royal Palace. Houses a spectacular collection of bronze and stone sculptures. (Ticket valid for your Durbar Square fee includes this). Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar): Walk North from the square into Mangal Bazaar. This 12th-century Buddhist monastery is gold-plated and stunningly intricate. (Small separate entry fee: NPR 100). Mahabouddha Temple (Temple of a Thousand Buddhas): Head East from the square. This terracotta temple is famous for having thousands of tiny terracotta Buddhas embedded in its bricks. The Hidden Artisan Trail (2 Hours) This walk is designed to help you experience the Newari Culture of craftsmanship. Start at the main square and head North to Ibahal. You will find traditional bronze and metal workshops. Listen for the sound of hammers! Walk to Oku Bahal and Haka Bahal (local monasteries/courtyards). These are serene, residential parts of the heritage site where locals live, work, and socialize. Continue towards Patan Dhoka (the ancient gate) and explore the area's fine stone and wood carving workshops. This trail offers a quiet glimpse into the Nepali culture's artistic heritage.
