Established in 1952 Lavelle’s Seaside House & Mickey’s Bar, is situated in the picturesque seaside village of Dooega on the Wild Atlantic Way, cradled between the Atlantic Ocean and Knockmore and Minaun hills with stunning sea views across the Atlantic to Clare Island, Inishboffin and Inishturk and just a 5 minutes’ walk from one of Achill’s many Blue Flag beaches. It is also home of Colaiste Acla, an activity based Irish language school.
Dooega is miles away from the hustle and bustle of ordinary day modern living. On a calm evening the turf smoke still rises skyward and scents the air just as it did in Paul Henry’s time over a century ago. Go for a walk along one of our headlands or stroll down to the jetty to meet the fishing boats coming in.
Then it’s time to relax in our comfortable residents lounge with an open turf fire or maybe head next door to Mickey’s Bar to exchange stories about the day, hear about the various walks, the rocks you can fish from, the fish you can catch, the sights still to be seen and listen to stories of days that are long gone.
The public bar, or “Mickey’s” as the locals call it, is where everybody meets. It’s your typical small village / country pub, with a great pint and experts in every field and stories galore - all true of course. Here locals and visitors mingle, people make arrangements for tomorrow and discuss the real issues of the day like the weather, the day’s fishing, the hay, the turf and football. And occasionally it’s rounded off with an impromptu singsong.
Reserve one of our double/twin en-suite with stunning sea views across the Atlantic to the offshore island of Clare, Inishturk and Inishbofin or one of our family rooms . We have also a number of rooms available for single lettings.
周辺エリアの情報
Situated in the heart of the village of Dooega, Lavelle’s Seaside House’s & Mickey’s Bar is the perfect base from which to explore Achill Island and experience everything Achill Island has to offer.
There’s lots to do on Achill such as swimming, walking, cycling, golf, angling, surfing, photography, or simply appreciating the breathtaking scenery and the sites of local historical interest such as the Deserted Village, the Colony in Dugort, the Mweelin settlement and Grace O’Malley’s keep at Kildownet.
There’s so much to see on Achill – cliffs, sea, beaches and mountains. The scenery is breathtaking. My favourite places on Achill are Dooega Head, the Atlantic Drive above Ashleam Bay, Minaun Heights with its panoramic views, and the views from Mayteoge Head above Keem Bay – the short climb is worth it.
Achill Island has a greater concentration of Blue Flag beaches than anywhere else in Ireland – 5 in total. They’re all within 20 minutes of Lavelle’s Seaside House & Mickey’s Bar, and they all have something different to offer. But we think our little Blue Flag beach in Dooega, just a short stroll away from us, is a gem. Other Blue Flag beaches include Keem Bay, Keel and the Silver and Golden Strands at Dugort.
Lavelle’s Seaside House and Mickey’s Bar is an ideal centre for walking and hill climbing holidays. Nearby we have Knockmore and the Minaun Heights. There are also numerous walks nearby and across the Island to suit all types of walkers from flat strolls along the beach and headlands to the moderately strenuous walks along the stunning Atlantic Drive and west towards Dooega Head. For the serious hill climbers there are the Croaghaun and Slievemore peaks to conquer, both over 2,000 feet.
Drive/cycle the many scenic drives on Achill Island, walk the full length of Keel beach, learn to surf, cycle the Westport to Achill Greenway, walk through Achill's Deserted Village, have an Atlantic swim or just switch off and absorb the wild rugged Atlantic scenery.
