Glenbeigh – At the Wild Atlantic Way A jewel on the Ring of Kerry near the famous Gulf Stream. A picturesque small village nestled in a dramatic mountain landscape surrounded by gentle dune landscapes. The sleepy little place stretches between the Atlantic with views across the Dingle Peninsula, the romantic Caragh Lake and the mountains of McGillycuddy's Reeks, the highest mountains in Ireland behind. The most beautiful months for travelling are Mai and June because of the colorful rhododendrons, as well as September and October, when gorse and heather unfold their lush splendor and transform nature into a shimmering backdrop. In July and August the quiet beach of Rossbeigh awakes from its slumber and the bustle begins. The swimming temperatures are due to the warmth of the Gulf Stream usually higher than in the North and Baltic Sea. In winter, when the mountains are covered in light snow and the air is clear, the fascinating landscape seems unreal. Glenbeigh has one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in Ireland.
Glenbeigh is an ideal starting point for numerous excursions along the Wild Atlantic Way: The Skellig Islands (approx. 45 km): Two shale islands far off the Atlantic coast, where once ascetic monks in beehive-shaped stone huts hundreds of meters above the raging Atlantic their meager existence struck. Easy to reach today by catamaran from Portmagee or Valentia Island and an insider tip among the Ireland fans. Killarney National Park (approx. 40 km): Ireland's most beautiful national park (approx. 10,000 ha), which stretches from the village to the highest mountains in Ireland. It houses waterfalls, lakes, forests, mansions and a worthwhile local history museum. In addition, it offers opportunities for hiking, boat, bike and horseback riding in fantastic scenery. The Ring of Kerry (round approx. 200 km): Starting from Glenbeigh, the Ring of Kerry tour is an outstanding experience with one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the world, with many historic sites (Ringfort Staigue Fort and Derrynane National Park) and romantic little towns like Sneem, Kenmare and Waterville.
