The Mews was originally built in 1865 as a croft house with animals on one side and people the other. In the 1900's it stopped being fashionable to live with your livestock so an up stair flat was added to accommodate people and left the animals downstairs. Over the years Oban became more populated and the crofters way of life slowly changed to suit the up and coming town. The building became 2 separate dwellings, with the top floor flat being accessed from the main road and the bottom from Breadalbane Mews.
The Mews has 2 Bedrooms with a British size Double Bed in each, meaning you need to be 'friendly' with the person you are sharing the bed with. There is no option for an extra bed or cot, as space doesn't allow this, sorry. The bathroom has a luxurious corner bath, perfect for unwinding and enjoying a glass of fizz and there is an electric shower over the bath. There is a T.V. in the living room but sorry none in the bedrooms.
The kitchen is relatively well-equipped, with a fridge freezer, microwave, small cooker with hob and oven and a variety of glasses, crockery, pots and pans. Although a full 'Christmas Dinner' or 'Show-Stopping Bake' would be tricky, you will be able to prepare simple dinners and cooked breakfasts. There is a foldaway dining table with benches to set up in the living room if you do decide to cook, unfortunately space didn't allow us to provide a dedicated dining room.
There is a washing machine but no tumble dryer (outside drying available). We also do not have a dishwasher (a nod to sustainability).
Parking - The Mews is the last property on a private road. There is no 'turning circle' however it is possible to manoeuvre round to get back out, although not quite a 3 Point Turn (more a 10 Point for me! and it helps if someone directs you). Some drivers prefer to either reverse up or down this short road. If parked correctly, the space comfortably accommodates 2 medium sized cars (I've also seen 2 very large vans wedged in as well!)
We have lived on Breadalbane Mews for over 25 years and when the opportunity arose to purchase No. 8, we jumped at the chance. We both have well over 35 years of hospitality experience and we were really excited for the opportunity to run our own business. We have truly poured our 'heart and soul' into the renovation project, The Mews is most definitely our 'Baby' and we are so proud of what we have achieved.
We particularly love the patio area and take great pride in looking after the plants in the garden. On the rare occasions we don't have guests staying, we 'sneak up' for a cheeky glass of wine and a dram under the fairy lights of the pergola.
We really hope our guests like our style and enjoy staying with us because it is important that our guests get value for their hard earned money and we would love to welcome you to The Mews.
We are located in a quiet, residential part of town, although we do not have spectacular views of the sea from our apartment, within 5 minutes walk you will be in the town centre surrounded by a large and varied mix of restaurants, eateries, shops and attractions. All while looking out from Oban Bay to the Islands of Kerrera, Lismore, Mull and beyond.
Oban is popular with visitors from the UK and overseas alike due to our beaches, boat trips, local walks and stunning scenery along the way. We get more than our fair share of rain in Oban, however that is what makes our landscape so green and nothing beats 'cosying up' in one of our local pubs with a good book for the afternoon, visiting the Whisky Distillery or the Atlantis Leisure Centre.
Oh, and don't forget Oban's fabulous seafood!
