The riverside village of Yetminster is worth a visit with its honey-coloured cottages and sleepy atmosphere. Melbury Park, also just a short drive away, offers some stunning walks through the scenic deer park and woodlands. The pretty market town of Sherborne, home to the stunning Sherborne Abbey, is less than a 20 minute drive away, with its attractive town centre offering the perfect place to potter around the many individual shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Sherborne Castle and Gardens are a must see, with two castles set in beautiful landscaped gardens and lakes. A short drive away you will discover the historic county town of Dorchester with its Roman heritage and home to the world-famous author Thomas Hardy. The Dorset Country Museum is well worth a visit. Just ten miles away the lively market town of Yeovil offers plenty of interesting places to eat and visit, including cinema, art galleries, museums and sports facilities. Several National Trust properties are within close reach, including Montacute House, Lytes Cary, Tintinhull and Barrington Court. A visit to Mapperton House and Gardens near Beaminster, a magnificent Georgian Manor House is recommended. The spectacular Jurassic Coast is just a short distance away, with beautiful beaches such as Durdle Door, Burton Bradstock and West Bay.
