We have tried to maintain the character of the very old farmhouse even if the building has been renovated according to the norms currently imposed with renovation. Much use is made of old wooden beams, in their original positions or used in new ways.
We wanted to maken the property easily accessible to people with mobility issues. Some work is still to be done in this respect but the shower is easily accessible. Contact me for updates if you yourself or someone you plan to accompagny has special needs. The appartment has bed space for up to 5 people at the moment. Later I might add a couch that can be transformed into a bed. For sleeping 4 or 5 is the optimal number. The table is big enough for ten but this is not a place for loud and raucous parties as we have to think of coexisting with the other people in the building.
I am a caregiver having worked at various moments in my career with people living with mobility issues. I have travelled widely and I am conscious how difficult it is sometimes to find appropriate accomodation. I am aware too that finding suitable accomodation for a holiday with an ageing parent is not always easy. Mobility issues aside however I like to holiday in beautiful spaces. I hope you will find this to be a calm and beautiful space where you can read, walk and sleep. Lacking space for many of my books I have transfered a part of my library to Le Fort. I am working on improving and enlarging it. For the moment you are certain to find books in English and French and a few in Italian and Polish.
Gimel is not far from the foot of the Jura mountains. There are plenty of possibilities for walks, bike rides and picnics. La Fondation Jan Michalski is 19 km away, 25 minutes by car, a bit longer by bike and possible by public transport. Lake Geneva is easily accessible as is the Arboretum in Aubonne.
