A unique modern chalet in the heart of the Caucasian mountains in Azerbaijan. The chalet has direct access to the picturesque mountain river with plenty of small waterfalls and to the wild forest. It has a large garden with the local endemic wild and fruit trees like oak, chestnut, walnut, apple, berries, etc. The chalet has all you need for your comfortable stay and rest. You can buy and enjoy the local organic food from the villagers of Istisu which are very hospitable and helpful.
My name is Shahin. I was born and raised in Azerbaijan, in a beautiful district surrounded by the Great Caucausus. From my childhoud my life was closely connected with the mountains. I remember when I was a child, I liked to see the sunrise over the mountains. I was impressed by immeasurable beauty of the mountains, sometimes barely visible or hidden under the thick cloudy sky but I always lived in hope that in a day or two the sun would dissipate the clouds and shine again and I would be able to see all this beauty on earth once again - the mountains.
You can spend hours watching the mountains, each time you find something new, more exciting. The mountains will inspire you to exlore the great unknown for yourself all the time. In the last 30 years I have travelled a lot, through many countries and regions around the world: between Portugal and Japan, from the Kola Peninsula to the Sayan Mountains. I have been to different parts of the world, but I always wanted back to the Caucasus.
The Caucasus truly fascinates with its majestic natural landscapes, its mysterious mountain peaks and coziness at the same time. It does not put any pressure on a person like the Himalayas or the Andes do. My chalet is probably located in the best place in the Caucasus, on the bank of the most beautiful and wild river Sanjar with the clear, healing water and the waterfalls.
No matter how tired I am while spending a few days on the bank of this river, it always heals me completely physically as well as emotionally.
My chalet is situated in a beautiful gorge surrounded by the magnificent Greater Caucasus along a beautiful mountain river upon the Shahdag Nature reserve. It is located on the outskirts of the village named Istisu. Here you have complete privacy, nothing bothers you but the whooshing water in the mountain river or refreshing cool breeze and birdsongs.
Unlike most houses in our region, my house has a large garden with different trees and plants with an direct access to the river from the yard. There are 3 villages nearby where you can go for a walk, shop at neighborhood stores, get the best fresh bread or hot "kutab" straight from "tandyr", or visit a cafe. Azeri cuisine probably is the most deliciouse in the world.
You can also buy fresh seasonal organic products from the locals, such as eggs, veal, lamb, chicken dairy products, fruits and vegetables. Not far from the village, within 10 km there are two beautiful waterfalls. It is possible to do some short hikes and horsback rides to the waterfalls and some natural attractions. You can plan your tours through the mountains a along mountain rivers by yourself or hire a local tour guide.
Another perfect place to visit is Quabala with its Luna park and rope lines on Tufandag Mountain which is 18 km away from Istisu.
Sheki is 80 km west of Istisu. You can plan a day trip there. It's worth spending half of a day in the ancient Sheki Palace.
Lahic - an ancient village of potters located high on the slopes of the Great Caucasus mountains about 55 km away from Istisu to the east. You will enjoy your stay there and can return full of unforgettable experiences.
Baku is 190 km east of Istisu.
Each season in Istisu is different: during summer it's mountain refreshing cool air, the best choice to save from the heat in Baku; in autumn it will delight you with its colors; winter is time for snow, frost and Russian bath; in spring nature's awakening and the endemic flowers blooming,
