A 15-minute walk from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Shrine, Guest House Gojo offers simple and cosy Japanese-style dormitory accommodation with free Wi-fi, futon beds and shared bathrooms. It is housed in a 100-year-old traditional building. I absolutely loved everything about my stay at Gojo Guest House. The architecture was stunning, it felt like I was in the historical period of Japan. The female dorm had tatami & were separated with a curtain, but provided enough privacy as a fellow introvert. The bathrooms were shared but were well kept & I appreciated the retro bathhouse vibes it had. Last but not least, the Kamo river is practically next to the Guest house so I was blessed on my walks to & from each day.

Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto
Boasting a terrace and views of city, Guest House Hennka Kyoto is situated in Kyoto, 1.4 km from Sanjusangen-do Temple. Featuring a garden, the 2-star hostel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. The accommodation features a shared kitchen, and luggage storage for guests. We spent 7 nights at this guesthouse, and it was an important part of our wonderful experience in Kyoto. The couple that runs the guesthouse became friends with us. They fed us a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and cabbage salad, which we enjoyed every morning. We had a great time talking with the wife (who can speak English conversationally) every morning, as well as the three other couples who came and went during our long stay. This guesthouse is definitely for people who enjoy the experience of meeting other travelers, want to learn about Japan from their hosts, are looking for a getaway from the big cities, and don't mind walking about 20 minutes to and 20 minutes from (uphill) the closest train station. It's not for people who want a reclusive getaway, don't like walking long distances, are looking for a normal hotel experience, or can't navigate steep stairsteps. This guesthouse allows you to live around the locals in a quiet, non-touristy neighborhood. Our twin room was very spacious compared to our budget hotel room in Tokyo, had a traditional feel to it, and was quite comfortable on hot days with the wall-mounted AC. Going to the bathroom or toilet room does involve walking a few steps out onto the balcony attached to your room, but with the house being high in the hills, it still feels reasonably private. This guest room is next to the one other guest room at this property, so you do need to be aware of noise levels. Below the guest rooms is a vacant art gallery space that serves as a large common area that's currently available to guests but may not always be if it's being used as a gallery. Attached to the gallery is a large patio with a view of Kyoto — a great place to sit in the morning or while eating dinner. If you're looking for a wonderful stay in Kyoto that's a little out of the ordinary, and you're an active traveler that wants to experience the non-touristy side of the city, this may be your place.

I had a great stay at PIECE Hostel Sanjo. Central location next to Nishiki market, Pontocho Alley and several restaurants and shops. I booked a bed in a female shared dormitory. Comfy and intimate bed, with a safe to store valuable items if needed. Only women toilet and shower also available. I would definitely recommend it!!
Great location. Purpose-built, new hostel. Comfortable, clean, spacious, well-organised by professional yet relaxed staff. Good kitchen facilities. Its the best hostel ive stayed at in 10 months in Asia.
Great, cheap hostel a little outside of the center. Great for meeting new people or keeping for yourself!
Safe and cosy hostel, shared room with privacy curtains around bunk beds. Downstairs common area is really lovely and nice place to cook a simple meal, chill out and do some work. Chilo and Nico the Pomeranians were so friendly and amazingly fluffy, the owner was happy to let them come and meet us whenever we were there. Good location close to bus stops and Nijo station, would like to come stay again!
I think the best hostel I will stay in during my trip. The atmosphere was great and inviting to meet new people. The staff was super friendly and the beds were comfy as well!
This was one of the best dormitory style hostel I have stayed. Almost perfect for solo budget travelers. Especially, the bed mattress and beddings were super comfy and they provide you a new towel every day. Shower rooms and rest room are so clean and well-organized as they provide you everything including shower stuff, combs, ear cottons, hair dryers and an hair iron, etc. Needless to say, the location is amazing in the middle of quiet Gion area. In short, excellent. I can’t think of any better hostel than this one.
Modern hotel with lots of facilities, room, cleaness, staff, great location and tasty breakfast..best budget hostel I have stayed in my whole life ( I have been in 22 countries)
One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. They thought about all the details. Great location and facilities. Noise isolation of the sleeping pods is good and the temperature is cool enough even in summer.
