The 2000 yen dinners were fantastic and Ryu the Chef could cook anything gluten free, so for me it was a dream to be able to eat all Japanese styles and not be restricted to just sashimi or sushi, plus..... he played a mean guitar and ukulele and knew a whole bunch of songs. We had some great jam sessions and interactions with the other guests. I recommend taking the cooking lessons if you get a chance- I learned how to make Dashi and prepare Shabu Shabu. The breakfast was a full meal prepared by Ryu- not just the usual cheese, boiled egg and toast. As hostels go - this one is a cracker!
