We enjoyed our stay at Sinharaja Rest very much. Maps may not for some reasons show the exact directions as there is a newer road uphill that one should take to reach the place. Relying on map directions we ended knocking on the neighbours' door but they kindly showed us the right direction : ) The place is an excellent starting point for a rainforest tour. The host organized a six hour rainforest tour for us and also took us to the bus station when we left, so we were very well looked after. The rainforest tour was awesome! We saw lots of birds, some monkeys and some snakes and our guide was very knowledgeable. Special care should be taken to keep leeches off as they are hungry and crawl faster than you might imagine. We were provided leech socks by the host that kept most of them away, but I still donated some blood to a couple of leeches. It may be a good idea to take some adhesive bandages with you to stop the bleeding. Sinharaja Rest is located at the edge of the village, so one can sit on the terrace and absorb the village sounds and listen to birds singing. Amazing location with view to the family garden/tea plantation and the river, many birds and wildlife passing by (saw a few peacocks flying in front of the balcony which still surprises me!).The couple is super caring/attentive and serve amazing, diverse and plenty of food. The room is quite big with a cozy decoration and plenty of seating and a lovely balcony.

Great location, little bit far from the center, but it's quite and surrounded by nature, great opportunity for walk. Room was big enough, comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious, one day the cook prepared a breakfast package as we went out early for a tour to Sinharaja. Also recommend having a dinner, because they were delicious! If you are interested in Sinharaja Tour, the owner can give you a contact to Danu, who was a great guide, very knowledgeable, great communication with him,highly recommend. The owner is also very nice, we had a really good conversations.

What an experience. The room was beautiful and perfect for the three of us. The bathroom felt very luxury and the shower was very good. The family prepared a lovely dinner of curries for us which was one of the best curries we have had. The breakfast was also lovely and we all left very full of food. The rainforest tour was amazing and swimming under a waterfall was a real highlight. This trip is a must

We had a wonderful stay at this homestay in the Sri Lankan rainforest. The host and his whole family were incredibly kind and helpful, and they made us feel very welcome. The homemade food was delicious and freshly prepared every day. Our room was spacious and clean. The rainforest tour was a highlight – we learned and saw so much, and the guides passion and knowledge made the experience truly unforgettable. We can highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic and warm experience in Sri Lanka.

Sinharaja Forest Edge is situated right on the edge of the UNESCO site Sinharaja Rain Forest. The property offers complimentary transportation to the rain forest from Mederipitiya Village.

A rough track to the hotel is best negotiated by transport which the hotel provides from the local bus depot. The jungle setting is truly wild and full of nature! Here you see wild Peacocks and many other birds. Accommodation is more than adequate. Good swimming pool. Good food. Small staff: very personally run and most friendly. Take a guided tour into the Forest Reserve. You are shown wildlife you would never normally see!
