Full serviced kitchenette for cooking- so easy to buy from supermarket and enjoy fresh produce (which is what Hokkaido is all about) We had everything we could ever need, no need to bring your toothbrush! Japanese hospitality was top notch and accomodating. The room was very comfortable, we had space to ourselves to relax after a long day. The house was situated in a quiet neighbourhood, so it was easy to get in and out.

The whole experience at Pension Gooseberry was a joy throughout, with our hosts being the most friendly and accommodating people on our trip in Japan. They made us breakfast each morning and even offered dinner each night to eat with the family! While the rooms are small, they are cosy with comfy beds. The building itself is beautiful with a wooden beamed structure and plenty of natural light. They also have a couple of Weimaraner dogs who you can meet. We cannot thank the Gooseberry family enough for their incredible hospitality and genuinely hope to see them again in the future. Furano is a magical place made even more special by the people who live there!

A one-of-a-kind experience. The owners were so friendly and helpful, they greeted us warmly. The pension itself is full of charm and our room was very nice. All the shared spaces are meticulously clean. Definitely recommend staying here while in Hakodate. As a bonus, the pension is located in a very nice area, close to many dining options, but also within a walking distance from the beautiful Motomachi.
