My daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in February. Ken san and Yuki san were delightful. The property was very clean and comfortable. They renovated the inn themselves and you can see care and attention in every detail from materials used to decor. The food was delicious and much of it was grown (rice) or made (plum wine) by Ken or Yuki. They provided great recommendations for restaurants and side trips. They ensured we were prepared with all the details required to ensure we had successful adventures. We are so lucky to have we picked the Sakonomichi. It was sugoi!!!

A lovely old traditional house, beautifully renovated. Heaps of space, really comfortable with a great location in the town. The host is really friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. He helped us out with transport and food recommendations, organised luggage transfer for us and dropped us where we needed to be on our last day. A great bonus was the record player and a few records to spin in the evening!

From the moment we arrived we knew it would be a special stay. Up to that point we had stayed in regular hotels near train stations at big cities so arriving at Guest house Hinode really made our time in Takayama very different in a good way. It’s nothing fancy, but a lovely Japanese home. We had rented a car so location was ok with us, but if you are on public transport it’s about 15mins walk to town. Free parking which was great too!! Beds super comfortable, washing machine 👍 Recommend: do not miss the morning market @Takayama ! 🧡

The woman who runs the inn was incredibly accommodating and welcoming and could not have been more friendly and helpful. She helped me find a wonderful dinner in this off the beaten track historic town which was an absolute delight. The guest house is clean and comfortable and I would recommend it to any traveler looking for an authentic experience.
