I just got back from a 2 night , 3 day trip that I booked with Jhony. I found the trip to be a fantastic experience! We were lucky enough to see 14 Orangutans in the wild , including a large male and a couple of mothers with their babies. Also various other big troops of monkeys, monitor lizards and many varieties of birds. I have not seen so much wildlife in one place during many previous treks over the world 😍 Jhony is a great guide and is very passionate about the conservation of the jungle.His assistant, the young Lana also really looked after us and will make a great guide in the future, for sure. We were provided with all the food we could eat which was local and delicious, and to stay in the jungle at two different camps with all of the wildlife surrounding was an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended

Lovely spacious rooms with gorgeous balcony and view. Rooms were very clean with flushing toilets! Easy walk into town where there’s lots of restaurants and a supermarket. The owner and staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. We felt very safe and welcome here. They cooked us lovely banana pancakes for breakfast and a lovely lunch.

We spent five unforgettable days in the heart of one of the planet’s last remaining jungles, at a hotel that not only offers comfort, safety, and stunning natural beauty — but also stands for a greater purpose: to protect public jungles and vulnerable lands from being sold off for palm plantations and destructive exploitation. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home. The rooms are cozy, clean, and perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings. The food was a delightful surprise — exquisite dishes prepared with love by chef Ipin, a true masterchef in the jungle. Even during our trek through Gunung Leuser National Park, we were served five-star meals in the heart of the rainforest, surrounded by ancient trees and the magical sounds of nature. Our guide Eru led us on breathtaking treks where we safely and respectfully encountered orangutans in their natural habitat. The views, the jungle sounds, the wildlife, the exotic flowers, the river, and the fresh air helped us reconnect with what truly matters. The hotel staff was absolutely incredible. Yanta, the manager, made sure everything ran smoothly. Aca, the founder and soul of the project, is an inspiring man who has purchased 100 hectares of jungle outside the national park, in order to protect it from deforestation and the aggressive expansion of palm oil companies. Rama and the rest of the team were always smiling, kind, and ready to help with anything. This place is truly one of a kind. No pollution, no stress — just pure peace and a deep energy that you can only find in places like this. We recommend this hotel to anyone seeking an authentic, life-changing experience deeply connected to nature. It’s not just a trip — it’s a gift for the soul.

We had a great time at Villa Cheeky Monkeys - the owners and all the staff are so friendly and enthusiastic, they’re like a big family. Food is amazing, we loved Chef Ellie‘s pancakes, the Nasi Goreng on the treks and a top notch Rendang! We stayed 4 nights and the bed was comfortable, the shower was nice and hot 😚 we did the half day trek and then the sunrise trek the next day, Rian was so knowledgeable but also really personable, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. We saw some amazing things, my favourite being the white handed Gibbon and big Alpha male Orangutan 🦧 luck us 🍀 Rian had help from Sarol on the first trek and he‘s a cheeky monkey in the truest sense - always smiling, joking and screaming and singing when we went tubing down the river - what a ride 😆 the second trek was assisted by Andre, who is cool as a cucumber and has a really nice singing voice :) special shoutout also to Tondi for getting us from and to the airport safely. Oh and puppy Daisy 🥰

This is one of the first guesthouses around the river, which makes it a great spot after long travels because you don’t have to haul your luggage too far. Muhdi and his staff are very friendly, there is a great restaurant. You can book trekking through the guesthouse. The room was pretty big and my particular one was away from the street and therefor very quiet.

Arif and Risky are great hosts. The hotel is 30 minutes walking into the jungle and in a nice quiet area. Al you can hear is the river flowing by, the animals and the rain on the roof Awesome jungle trekking with Wanda and Juli. And great local food at night made by Risky.

Great location in Bukit Lawang, lovely grounds and outlook directly over the river. Beautiful teak rooms with outstanding bathroom facilities. Rooms and the whole guesthouse are spotlessly clean. Very comfortable beds and importantly, a quiet room upstairs . Indra and Nana, and all the staff are wonderful, and very friendly. The restaurant food is great - you wouldn't even need to go elsewhere to eat. Thankyou Indra and Nana.
