Set in park-like grounds on the shores of Lake Te Anau, 5 minutes' walk from the town centre, Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers has both mountain and lake views from the majority of the rooms. Bathrooms were spotless at all times! Lovely rooms and kind staff. And the location was so great.

Possum Lodge is a combination campground and motel. We stayed in one of the cottages and despite its obvious age, found it to be clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. The host was friendly and helpful. The nearby lake (Manapouri) was stunning. We had a wonderful experience meeting the locals in the local pub. Highly recommended unless you are looking for a 5 star resort :=)
