Samitha looked after me with such care and grace, always making sure I was comfortable and that I had everything I needed. He took me on a lovely boat ride on the little river and pointed out birds and trees. Also a fabulous night walk. He has an incredible knowledge of Ayurvedic medicine and it is fascinating. He knows what plants and trees cure various ailments. One of the most lovely things at this place is the abundance of fireflies. You can see them in the dark so it's worth turning off your lights, sitting back and taking in the breathtaking beauty of these creatures as they dance around. I opted to do the 12 hour Safari which I think was the best choice. The first couple of hours is very busy with a lot of jeeps so having that extra time to see the elephants without other Jeeps around was really special. The driver Patou was fabulous and spotted so many birds and animals before I had even real realized they were there. This was all arranged in advance by Makulu.

This was the best accommodation we stayed in Sri Lanka. Our safari trip was very well organized and it was really great. The hotel is built in a beautiful setting with a river. Everything was perfect.

The staff were fantastic and always ready to help answer any questions including “what bird is that” x 20. The staff were patient and knowledgeable and they made my experience amazing!!

This is one of the best locations I’ve visited so far. Situated in a very remote area where there’s limited access to outer world. You have to take a basic nature trail to reach the destination which my family enjoyed much. once you entered the premises it’s like you stepped into another country. Very calm and peaceful environment so we need to adopt to the destination. I recommend this place to all nature lovers who look for places where you can blend with nature. Limited electricity so prepare yourself with backups. (power banks, flashlights, ect)

The units will provide guests with a desk and a kettle. we loved everything about our stay. it was clean, had a big room, nice pool, great food and the check-in expierience was superb! we would have loved to stay a bit longer! they arranged a safari tour for us which was absolutely fantastic. the guide was great and had a lot of knowledge about the animals and where to find them. 10/10 would recommend!

The on-site Rose Restaurant serves Western, Chinese and Sri Lankan food. It was really nice stay! We stayed one night in the cottage and second night in the tent. We really enjoyed it! Restaurant staff were super nice and friendly! We also did safari tour with Santha - he was amazing driver and the best guide. He has really good eyes so we were lucky and saw lots of animals. Athgira River Camping offers a great outdoor dining experience as well as a barbecue dinner and cooking demonstrations. Real wild cocktails and a nice wine selection are available as well. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the pool area was nice. They arranged the safari to Udawalawe National Park. The driver took us around the park.
