Set inside the Matera Sassi area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Palazzo Degli Abati offers unique rooms carved in the rock or in a 18th-century building. This family-run property with free Wi-Fi offers panoramic views of the city. There is no perfect place than this hotel for me, it's exactly in front of the beautiful site of old Matera.

Set inside the Matera Sassi UNESCO site, Corte San Pietro is housed in a renovated historical building carved out of stone. It offers rooms with a private entrance and free Wi-Fi throughout.

Featuring an elegant yet primitive style, each room is unique and furnished with hand-carved wood and stone items. All rooms have a view on the internal courtyard, where breakfast is served in summer. Excellent location at the heart of the Sassi (old town). Hotel is also along the road so accessible by taxi. The staff was extremely accommodating in helping us with dinner reservations and transportation. Breakfast was delicious and our rooms were replenished with fruits daily.

Overlooking Matera’s Sasso Barisano, Fra I Sassi Residence is set in restored 17th-century buildings inside the Matera Sassi UNESCO site area. It offers a sun terrace and air-conditioned rooms with stone walls and views of the historical centre. Our experience at Fra i Sassi was absolutely unforgettable. Our room was beautiful and full of character — the bathroom was set directly in the cave, which gave it such a unique and authentic touch. One of the highlights was definitely the view: right from our window we had a breathtaking panorama of Matera, perfect at any time of day. The location couldn’t have been better. We had no issues at all with our luggage, and the direct shuttle to the hotel made arrival super easy. Once there, we were within walking distance of everything — it’s perfectly situated to explore the Sassi and the historic center. What really made the difference was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was incredibly kind and helpful. They gave us excellent recommendations for food and activities, helped with reservations, and made us feel completely at home. A big plus for us: we were traveling with our dog and everything went smoothly. And breakfast? Just as amazing as everything else — fresh, local, and delicious. Highly recommend staying here if you want the full Matera experience with comfort, charm, and warm hospitality

All uniquely decorated with a mix of antique and modern furnishings, rooms here include a TV and floor heating.

Ridola Hotel was designed in 1872 by Leonardo Ridola, a famous local architect. It still has original vaults and pavements, and its façade features a solar clock from the 1900s. + Location was perfect, just 7-8 min walk from the old town + Very nice room, furnished with modern decor and yet preserved some of the vintage walls/ceilings (bed as well) + Very safe and secured parking + Short drive to Belvedere Murgi Timone + Most importantly, the staff was super helpful. We would like to specially appreciate the help from Enza, who literally helped us to plan our entire trip

L'Hotel In Pietra offers unique rooms set in the Matera Sassi area, a UNESCO site. All rooms and suites have free Wi-Fi and a laptop is available on request. Breakfast is buffet style.

The In Pietra is set in a converted monastery from the 13th century. Today it offers a large hall, a reading room and a wine cellar. This "room" is beyond description. It's basically part of an old church (800 AD to the late 1600s) and your bed is located in one of the apses with a very high ceiling. It's all stone/rock and the room is exceptionally silent. On the second "floor"/mezzanine in the room there is a huge jacuzzi with a light show. There is also a terrace (which you reach by climbing out an old window-turned-door and with a fantastic view of the cathedral. The room is very clean and there is a small minibar. Breakfast is served in the main church building and is adequate. This room cannot be compared to anything we have ever seen and is perfect for romantically oriented couples! Since Matera is very hilly we asked for a ported to carry our luggage to and from the hotel from and to our taxi (we arrived by bus). The staff was very helpful.

L'Arturo B&B offers modern-style rooms in central Matera, 50 metres from its Cathedral. Free WiFi is provided in the entire building.

Air-conditioned rooms all feature a flat-screen satellite TV, a seating area and fully fitted private bathroom with a shower. L'Arturo B&B was centrally located in the picturesque old town of Matera with wonderful views over the sassi. Arturo and Monica were wonderful hosts - incredibily kind and helpful and went out of their way to assist us with taxis and recommendations for restaurants. Monica warned us beforehand not to bring big suitcases as there are many stairs down to the guest house. They kindly helped us with our luggage. The decoration of the room was quirky and modern and contrasted with the beautiful and well renovated old building Our room was very spacious with a nice terrace with a table and chairs. Restaurants and shops were all within walking distance from the guest house. The breakfast on the terrace with a view was scrumptious with fresh pastries, bread, cheeses, tomatoes, fruit, cereals, jogurt, milk ,coffee, water, and juice - so much to choose from. Thank you Arturo and Monica for a wonderful experience
