There are not a ton of hotel options in Linz- luckily I came across Hotel Schwarzer Bär! It was so moderately priced, it actually almost worried me. I trusted the many great reviews, and I am SO GLAD I DID! What a great experience that totally blew me away! We were traveling through Austria to visit WW2 historical sites, so we booked the large suite they have at the hotel. It is slightly hard to navigate there when you first arrive- PLEASE, JUST CALL THE HOTEL- they will guide you, and once you get those directions, it is super easy. Upon walking in, I was so pleased with the lobby/cafe/check in area. There were a few people enjoying a beverage and snack outside on the patio. The front desk staff was GREAT! They checked us in right away and explained the location, breakfast, and other restaurant options. Once we got to our room- WOW! It was SO BIG! Given, we did book the large suite, but it had a full kitchenette, living room, large balcony, 2 closets, a huge bathroom (with GREAT hot water), a nice king size bed, and another desk area. It had a great air conditioner (a HUGE plus if you need it), but also a ton of windows to open. The breakfast was GREAT! One of the best on our 4 week vacation. We had dinner in their terrace restaurant- and it was awesome! We were able to sit outside and enjoy the great views. I KNEW I had to write them a great review- I was beyond impressed for a VERY AFFORDABLE hotel.

This 4-star superior hotel is located next to the Design Center (Congress Hall), and within a 15-minute walk of the Old Town, the Danube River and Linz Main Train Station.

(DISCLAIMER: We are a mid-fifties couple from UK with both our sons at university - one in UK, one in Linz, Austria this year. Plus we love a Parkrun if possible) The 2nd time I'd been to Linz and 1st for my wife. Our eldest son is at the JK University here for the year. By some incredibly interesting planning by our son, we met him in Salzburg the previous day, then missed him in Linz as he'd gone off for the weekend with friends. Hey-ho! I wanted to show Linz to my wife. The hotel location was perfect as we were near the city centre - just the other side of the river. Plus, we were a km or so from the Linz Parkrun - a BIG Bonus as I'd run it on the previous trip. Plus we were right next to a tram stop to get to the University for a sight-seeing trip, etc. Bed great, location perfect, room was clean, shower was great, checkout time was perfect for us to do parkrun, return, shower then leave. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel; we found a nearby coffee-shop on the walk back to the main Linz train station.

The hotel was quite central, only a 20 minute walk to the centre of Linz. Parking is underground of the hotel which is very convenient and free of charge, a welcome bonus. The room was spacious and immaculately clean, a spacious shower room and the bed was extremely comfortable. We have stayed in B & B hotels in both Austria and France and have always found them to be cost effective for the excellent facilities and comfort.
