There’s a remarkable transformation taking place in Rwanda, a country once overshadowed by it's history. From the skyward mountains and lush rainforests to green cities and countryside villages, the sense of optimism is impossible to ignore. Its inspirational tale of revival is no more apparent than in Kigali, the booming capital. Here, roads are clean, plastic bags are banned, parks are tidy and widespread. It’s all thanks to a monthly community cleanup called ‘Umuganda’, in which every Rwandan living in Kigali – including the president himself – gets involved. Time your trip right, and you can help too. Nestled in the corners of this landlocked country are several pristine national parks. Hike along the trails of Nyungwe Forest, one of Africa’s largest protected rainforests, and track chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Or chill on the shores of Lake Kivu, with its quiet beaches and rocky coves. But Rwanda’s most spectacular attraction lies to the north-west: the steamy forests of Volcanoes National Park – home to wild troops of mountain gorillas. You can find a range of hotels and guesthouses spread through Rwanda, though the bulk are located in Kigali and towns near national parks. There are also some lodges available by Lake Kivu.

Everything was amazing. We received an exceptional welcome, the food was healthy and delicious, and we got all the assistance we needed for touring. My kids loved the lodge and all the activities they experienced, including cruising on Lake Kivu, swimming, enjoying the fishermen experience, and of course, playing cards. We had an unforgettable time. The owners, Aicha and Ivan, are incredibly kind and caring. It was a wonderful vacation. Umurobyi is a peaceful and quiet place - with a great view, perfect for relaxing and unwinding.

Guest review
To all my fellow travellers: don't miss this place. It has just opened, they are still adding new services, and it is already a little wonder:
The lodge, which is a little higher than the road, offers and magnificent view and it is placed very near to the entrance of Akagera national park. There is no closest hotel, except for those in the park itself;
The rooms, which draw their character from the beautiful wooden style, are incredibly confortable, well designed, with a little terrasse perfect to read in this magic atmosphere;
The swimming pool is simple but perfect to relax after the "African massage" of the safari road, with a beautiful view;
The restaurant also points to the mountain in front, it has the same wooden style, a nice bar and a view to the kitchen to see the Chef in action;
The place is also thought well so that it is serving and benefiting the community around: not only is it ecological and affordable, Akagera Park Inn buys its food from the local farmers, it is building a local shop to promote local crafts, it is working with local guides and massage centers, it aims to make its economic adventure an inclusive one that benefits the community.
And of course, I have to mention the team who made everything to ensure that I had a good stay. For example, I received a warm welcome with fresh fruit mocktail and warm towel, they offered a little lunchpack for the safari, were extremely flexible with dinner and breakfast time, and put me in contact with the Ellie, a wonderful young guide who showed me around, took me for a brochette and some banana wine after the safari.

Set in Ruhondo, 49 km from Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Ruhondo Island Retreat offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a bar.
Guest review
We drove to Ruhondo from Kigali for a weekend in mid-May. We took a wrong turn on the way, and our hosts at the retreat were so helpful directing us in.
That level of superb hospitality continued throughout our entire visit. It’s a short boat ride to the island, but the retreat feels like a faraway paradise. You are immersed in the natural beauty of the island, surrounded by lush vegetation and peaceful blue waters.
We loved exploring the island and taking a boat tour of the lake. I received an excellent massage in a lovely outdoor setting by the water. My favorite activity was relaxing on the terrace, snacking on warm peanuts and enjoying magnificent views of volcanic peaks in the distance.
This is the perfect place to take morning coffee, read a book, or chat with other guests and our lovely hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and our cabin was clean and comfortable. We slept deeply at night.
Our only regret was not staying a few extra dayss!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Umutuzo Lodge, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The lodge is nestled in a breathtaking location, offering stunning scenery that made every moment feel like a retreat into nature's beauty.
The room was nothing short of amazing. It was impeccably clean, thoughtfully decorated, and incredibly comfortable. The attention to detail in the room's design made it a perfect blend of luxury and coziness.
What truly set this stay apart was the exceptional staff. Every member of the team went above and beyond to ensure the stay was perfect. Their warmth, professionalism, and willingness to assist with any request made a significant difference and added a personal touch that I greatly appreciated.
From the stunning scenery and beautifully appointed rooms to the outstanding service provided by the staff, everything exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend the lodge to anyone seeking a memorable and relaxing getaway.
