Island-hopping is the surest way to take in the country’s best sights and activities. On Coron, you’ll be able to dive amongst ship wrecks, while Donsol is known as the ‘whale shark capital of the world’. The culture-filled capital of Manila is dominated by soaring skyscrapers looming over mega malls and artisan markets. Its historic centre (known as Intramuros; Spanish for ‘within the walls) is surrounded by a long circuit of gigantic stone walls and forts. You’ll encounter the main landmarks of Fort Santiago and Manila Cathedral inside this age-old district. The most common accommodation options are hotels and apartments, with many a short distance away from popular beaches. In more rural areas you’ll find a good selection of villas, lodges, campsites and farm stays.
