Just south of Sicily, Malta is a small archipelago of three islands but packs in prehistoric temples, a thriving capital and turquoise waters flowing onto white-sand beaches. Located on Malta Island, the ancient capital city of Valletta is described by UNESCO as ‘one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world’. Like a fine wine, the city has improved with age; its Roman Catholic cathedral flanked by an array of museums, shopping areas and 16th-century mansions converted into bars and restaurants. Other must-see attractions include the Hypogeum – a prehistoric burial site unearthed in 1902 – and the Megalithic temples which can be observed on both Malta and Gozo island. Malta’s rural beauty makes it perfect for all sorts of activities, such as hiking along the Gozo coast, sailing past secluded caves or diving amongst shipwrecks. If you’d rather ride a wave than dive below one, then numerous surfing spots are available, including Palm Beach, St. Thomas and Ghallis on the north shores of Malta. Comino is Malta’s smallest island but still worth a visit by any means. Its main draw is the Blue Lagoon – a huge pool of crystal-clear water on the uninhabited islet of Cominotto. We had a marvellous stay at the Capital Boutique Hotel. We had a deluxe double room with balcony, with good space and a view to the street, in an excellent location to visit the centre. The staff is very friendly and approchable, all of them. Breakfast is good and varied. Highly recommended !

This hotel seems very, very new. Everything was super clean. The location was amazing. We stayed on the top floor and had a beautiful view of the harbor from the terrace. The manager was super helpful and communicative. I highly recommend and would stay there again.

The Duke hotel is located close to the city center, 5-6 min walk from the bus station and 10 min walk from Ċittadella. You can actually have a pretty view on the fortress from the 4th floor. There is also a shopping center in the same building and a cafe with nice sweets. I had a big room with a small corner with a table and chair. Safety box, mini bar, small wardrobe, big mirror, tea kettle with tea bags and instant coffee + cream were available in the room as well. I received a personalized postcard and chocolate present for Christmas, which was very cute. It seems some of the rooms have jacuzzi but I was not offered an upgrade. The room 204 was very quiet despite of the shopping mall on the ground floor. The breakfast was very diverse. You could order eggs the way you like them the be cooked: omelet with different fillings, poached, boiled, etc. The hotel is very responsive and provides the support needed via messages or phone call.
