Volcanoes, ice caves, hot springs, Northern Lights, waterfalls, glaciers, spouting geysers. It's hard to imagine all these natural wonders on one island with a population of around 300,000. Iceland's otherworldly landscape is a fitting setting for the Vikings who once inhabited the 'land of ice and fire'. Take a drive around Iceland's ring road in a 4x4 and you'll feel like you're on another planet. One minute you'll be cruising past the tumbling waters of Gullfoss and the next you'll be alongside the eerily beautiful black-sand beach of Vik. Don't leave without taking a dip in a hot spring. If you want to avoid the crowds of the Blue Lagoon, other options include Mývatn in the north and the hot streams of the Reykjadalur valley. The elusive Northern Lights feature on many a bucket list. There's no sure way to see them but it’s more likely during the winter months between September and April. Although it’s a lively city, you can see most of Reykjavik in a couple of days, and it’s secondary to the natural wonders the rest of the island has to offer. Main sights include the towering Hallgrímskirkja Church and the National Museum exhibiting the country's compelling history and culture. As the capital, Reykjavik offers the biggest choice of accommodation with a variety of hostels, hotels and apartments. A number of cosy guesthouses are dotted along the ring road but note that many are closed during the winter months.

This was a cosy weekend getaway for my birthday and it was perfect. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful food. Cosy and tasteful decor. Beautiful little spa with sunken hot pool. Extremely professional massage therapist. And the building itself is nestled against the mountain with stunning views over fields and horses out to the Westman Islands. Wonderful!

It was perfect! WE loved that we could have breakfast in our room when we wanted, without having to get up in time for a fixed breakfast. The breakfast is perfect, fresh bread every day - what a treat! The room is big enough, bed is great, location is perfect - walking distance from everything. Highly recommended!

Breakfast and dinner were for sure some of the best we had in Iceland. Hot tubs facing the glacier are amazing, while also the floor to ceiling windows in the rooms provide for some very nice view.

Located in Akureyri, 32 km from Godafoss Waterfall, Hafdals Hotel provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking.
Guest review
When you get to the Hafdals Hotel you will be impressed by the view and then you’ll realise that you get to enjoy this view every single second during your stay (well not every second, the bathroom has no view towards Akureyri but this is no fault of the hotel). Speaking of the room it is quite spacious and the shower has some nice water pressure. The complete hotel facility was clean and well managed!
The breakfast buffet is adequate, there is a good amount of choice and the food and drink is of high quality.
The bed is comfortable and the provided pillow lead to some restfull sleep.

Guest review
The location right next to the Geysir made this Hotel perfect for a stay during our 3 day stopover in Iceland.
However, once on site - the hotel exceeded our expectations! The spacious architecture of the building is very impressive with a very stylish nordic interior design. The room was nice and had a very comfortable bed.
Dinner and breakfast were excellent - do not forget to try the Geysir Bread!
The staff were outstanding - very friendly and helpful.
A big tanks to Georgiana who helped me get back my scarf that I forgot in the room.
Wished we could have stayed there longer.
