While Griffon's rest is not for everyone - no electricity, but with an inverter to charge mobile phones and portable lights, the location is excellent! Deep inside the heart of the Marikela National Game Reserve. I was told on the day of my arrival that I missed an elephant sighting by about 30 mins! I loved waking up to the beautiful mountains views. It is exactly what I was looking for, the view, serenity, a running/walking trail for those who like that, perfect for someone who wants to have a peaceful place that feels like home away from home. The kitchen and the bathroom are spacious. And she was kind enough to let me park my car under the shade since it was raining. Laurette (the owner) made sure that I was comfortable as possibly as I can. She was also kind enough to educate me about her plants and for letting me have her tasty fruits that were ripe in her garden. I also got some plants to plant back in Jhb. The hospitality at Van Ross was out of this world. I feel like I am part of the family now.

The farm was absolutely stunning, views from the chalets is beautiful. I loved how off the grid it is, no stress from normal day life, gives us time away as a family. Plenty of animals to see and encounter. The out door fire pit was lovely on the evening. Kids loved every minute of our time here. The owners were very accommodating and helped in every way they could. Very friendly.
