The Houtbay harbour is definetly something for any traveller to experience. World of birds was a great outing our 2 year old thoroughly enjoyed it. The fish market had the freshest fish too with great variety.

Quiet nice town. We ate at a seaside tourist restaurant. It had great fresh fish and we could walk there on the beach. The least favorite was the haggling and begging at the docks before and after the seal boat ride. This town was our first stop in South Africa and it really represented the divide between wealth and poor. I think to get around you will have to have a rental car. definitly drive part way up the cliff drive, the sceanery and plant life was very interesting.

We stayed in Hout Bay for three nights.

We stayed in Hout Bay for three nights. It's a small fishermen town, very sleepy/peaceful. Yet, there are enough restaurants and bars to find your taste. We were two girls travelling alone, but we felt very safe there. You can easily do some hikes from there, take a walk at Hout Bay Beach, visit Cape Good Hope or Chapmans Peak. Other than that, there is not very much to do. So pick Hout Bay if you want a safe and peaceful stay near Cape Town!

We have been coming to Hout Bay for 20+ years.

We have been coming to Hout Bay for 20+ years. It has been consistently good AND much improved since the fish factory and its occasional stench has shut down. The beach is great. There are plenty of eateries with a range of prices, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. However we were unable to find a "special" place to eat. The Lookout is great for oysters and the fish and chips. We always hire a car. We know the Western Cape and have no problem getting around. Friends ask why we visit The Cape every year to which we reply - "the scenery, the food, the wine, we can watch the Premier League and The Six Nations, they drive on the left and they know how to make tea."

A truly beautiful place with an amazing position overlooking the mountains of Hout Bay. The rooms and beds were absolutely sparkling clean and so so comfortable. Big showers and bathrooms with tons of storage space for your cases and hanging for clothes. Amazing generous breakfast . Jeremiah the manager is a wonderful kind person and did everything to help . It was self catering but there were snacks, fruit, tea & coffee for us there. The room was perfect for what we needed and was clean and very well equipped even a few backups for when we had loadshedding. Host were friendly and we really enjoyed our stay
