FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded on 3 sides by water, it is spread over steep hills that make for great photo opportunities. None better than the zig-zag Lombard Street seen in many a film. Other movie stars are the streetcars plying the hill climbs – a little touristy, but still worth trying.

In the middle of the bay is Alcatraz island, famed for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t fancy going inside, the views towards the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere in San Francisco is life more laidback than on the Pacific beaches. Hire a bike and head out there via the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. The clam chowder served in (yes, actually in!) bread is a delight. Chinatown also has a great selection of good value restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want to stay in apartments along those lines, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something to suit. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here.

Wonderful vibe.

Wonderful vibe. Safe, clean, and I can't wait to return to spend more time in this spectacular city with so such to offer. We were there for work and only so a tiny part of the city but I loved walking around the embarcadero where we stayed for a few days and enjoyed the bay, piers and markets. Spending a day in the Golden gate park walking and enjoying all of the activity and sites. Japan town and the marvelous food and people are also high on my list. Can't wait to return to explore more of the sites.

We stayed in the Fisherman's Wharf area which was really great. A few homeless "spaced out" wandering around but avoidable. The Big Red Bus was great & was a 2 1/2hrs in total which took a trip across the golden Gate Bridge. Alcatraz is a must see as was the Trolley Tram. Some areas of the city of San Fran I would avoid, a lot of drug affected people on the streets, not some areas I would go at night time. We took the tram for a round trip to also see the sights but found that the last stop was in a non-desirable area & had to wait 20 minutes for another tram to take us back to the Wharf area. We followed the rule of "don't make eye contact' & kept to ourselves. Would certainly go back though as we did not have enough time to explore everything we would have liked to. There were loads of driverless cars getting about which was unique for us as Aussies.

Lived here 20 years ago and have returned a few times.

Lived here 20 years ago and have returned a few times. I hesitated to return after I found the city unsafe and dirty when I traveled in 2019. I must say our recent trip was amazing— streets are clean, new sculptures, and more charm. NOTE: you don’t need a car in SF. Take MUNI and day passes are $15 and include the cable cars, street cars, buses to EVERYWHERE. TIP: there is a MUNI ONLINE pass (only available online after downloading app for free) that costs under $6 and includes everything except cable cars. We got the $15 pass one day and the $6 pass the rest of the days. We are already thinking about going back!

We loved the city which has a lot of character with its interesting architecture, steep hills, lots of greenery, cycle friendly and the cable cars and trams, some great bars and diverse neighbourhoods. North Beach and Chinatown which adjoin each other were great at night and the lively Castro district and the bookshops, clothes shops and mansions of the Haight/Ashbury. It felt very safe which was good as we did a lot of walking.. the only part not so keen on was the Tenderloin area.

It was my first time in San Francisco and it was absolutely beautiful! There was so much to do. There's gorgeous beaches nearby as well as parks and forests. There's so much activity to get involved in and the area is truly gorgeous.

I loved San Francisco!

I loved San Francisco! I loved the wharf area, the walk to the Golden Gate Bridge, and the relaxed feel of the city. Getting around San Francisco is super easy with cable cars, trolley trams, buses, Ubers, Waymo (driverless cars), and e-bikes and e-scooters for hire. The Fisherman's Wharf area has lots of fun activities, such as watching the local Sea Lions on the jetty, riding the Observation Ferris Wheel for amazing views of the whole bay area, visiting Alcatraz, walking or cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge, and driving through the very steep streets!

Great hotel in fantastic location and super close to Moscon Center as well as the Union Square and all of the San Francisco interesting locations. There is even free shuttle to Chase Center stopping just by hotel entrance. The crew were all super friendly and helpful. Rooms are big, clean and well equipped. Highly recommended for both business trips and urban vacation.

Well-located just around the corner from Union Square and five minutes from the Chinatown area of San Francisco. We enjoyed strolling down to the harbour area (easy once you clear the hill, or take a detour across a couple of blocks where the gradient is less steep!) and this could be done in 35-45 minutes. The service was also very good.

Old school hotel just off Union Square which is fairly central San Francisco. The room was okay. Bed was comfy. Looked onto a street which could be a bit noisy late at night, but central SF.
