This beach is one of my favorite Jersey Shore beaches! The beach and boardwalk are clean and safe because of the beach tags you must purchase. This is a dry town no alcohol so it is very quiet. Ocean Grove started as an oceanfront Methodist spiritual...
Ocean Grove started as an oceanfront Methodist spiritual camp meeting town and incredibly, it continues to this day! It must have extremely strict preservation laws because it is a true time capsule of the late 1800's with almost every building in town preserved. This includes the giant wooden auditorium ( where preachers still preach) and the tent village which is made of partly wooden structures with tents attached. Another amazing thing about Ocean Grove is although it is quiet and conservative, if you want a livelier scene you can easily walk to Asbury Park. There you have a multitude of shops and restaurants and you can catch a music show at The Stone Pony (schedule on Instagram). My daughter and I. Enjoyed our visit very much, we walked a lot of places. I it was very near the Ocean and we could easily park the car a go most anywhere. I went to Ocean Grove because I was attending a wedding (not mine!). The place was noisy and crowded because there was a "zombie" event. The Zombies were fine, but there was a soundstage where a live "band" was indulging themselves in what I could only describe as creating sound pollution and "musical masturbation". There was no getting away from them. It was awful - how they are allowed by the local council (or whoever is in charge) to ruin what would otherwise be quite a pleasant sea-front, is frankly beyond me. Would I go back? Ocean grove beaches are clean and the bathrooms are...
Ocean grove beaches are clean and the bathrooms are amazingly clean. Beach has lots of families and many guest houses nearby. It's easy to walk to grab some good food on Main Ave to take to the beach (Tino's pizza, sandwiches, and salads are the best! he has gluten free too! Day's ice cream is awesome.) The town is a historically Methodist town, and the beach & town land are still owned by the Christian camp meeting association. You'll see psalms and bible verses written on signs along the boardwalk. If you are uncomfortable around religion, this may not be for you. I'm not religious myself, but to each her own; this is a really beautiful town. Important to note: the town is dry. There are no alcohol sales within OG. But you can head out of town to grab wine or whatever, and you can walk to Asbury Park for restaurants with liquor license or to hit up a cocktail bar.Guest review byJenniferUnited States
