(Hey Booking.com, the park wasn't renamed by the current...

(Hey Booking.com, the park wasn't renamed by the current administration, just the mountain! So it is now called Mt. McKinley officially, but it is still Denali National Park!) Denali is an unusual National Park by comparison to the ones in "the lower 48". Unlike those other parks, you can't drive to all the key attractions. The only road into the park doesn't go very close to the standout feature--the mountain. At the visitor center you are more than 60 miles away from it! The park is huge; everything you can see from the road is less than 10% of the total park area. And with the road closed at roughly the halfway point (due to a landslide), you see even less. To get a real sense of the park, take the Tundra Wildnerness Bus Tour (linked from the park web site). This is one of four bus tours offered, and is the longest (5-6 hours)--but easily the best. You go as deep into the park as vehicles can go (to where the road is closed). The drivers have an average of 21 years of experience in the park, and will narrate the history, geology, flora and fauna. If they or you spot an animal, they will stop the bus and give you ample time to look at them. On our tour, we were extremely fortunate and saw all of "the big 4 mammals": Caribou, Dall sheep, Grizzly Bears, and Moose--some were even walking on the road! If you want your own adventure, you can walk or snowshoe or mush just about anywhere. There are very few designated trails, so explore!

There is easy access with free shuttles to and from the surrounding resorts. Free shuttles within the park. Made getting around easy. Bus tours that cost extra were well run and enjoyable. Visitors center was beautiful with a free theater showing very well made movies about the park and the dog kennel run by the rangers. Restaurant on site.

This place is not worth the money by a huge margin.

This place is not worth the money by a huge margin. It’s pretty bad. No Wi-Fi working, no heating that worked, no phone system that worked, soft beds, no bed side table, no bed side reading lamps, shoddy bathroom. I would not recommend it and will definitely not come back.

This is really the only area to stay in at Denali.

This is really the only area to stay in at Denali. The only other area is Healy, which is 10 miles up the road & where the locals live. Don’t know the hotel situation there; but there is a major grocery store in Healy. In McKinley Park, there are several hotels, all serviced by hotel shuttles to/from the train & into the park. These are very handy! Check their schedules though, as several DON’T pick up between 3:15-5pm from the park-they are dealing with train passengers! The “town” is very touristy; however, there are some beautiful shops there. Any activities such as rafting, ATVs, bikes have their offices here. It’s a fun spot to browse. The grocery stores are mostly grab & go and liquor. Just think through food a bit, unless you’re on a tour or staying at the Princess or Holland America hotels. Those complexes have much more. All in a a lot of fun to be had at Denali! Incredible hiking!

Absolutely beautiful! Nice property, but be willing to walk.

Absolutely beautiful! Nice property, but be willing to walk. Each building is spread out across the property. They do have a shuttle if you want to wait. Staff is amazingly helpful and very friendly. Food is mediocre. Front desk staff is very helpful with planning activities.

The park is actually called Denali Park and it is absolutely stunning. The views, wildlife and plants are totally worth it. If staying at a hotel, 3 days and 2 nights with the family was a good amount of time.

The location was perfect. The hotel picked us up from the train station and sent us back. There were half hourly free shuttle buses from the princess hotel just across the road. The room was very spacious and the kitchen was very functional. There were beautiful views of the mountains from our window. Even though the rooms faced the main highway, it was quiet at night. The hotel staff were very helpful and accommodative and the rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily.

the room was very cozy and the balcony faced the woods and a river, it was great sitting there, with some drinks, take away food and chat until late. The hotel has no restaurant, no bar. A Thai food truck is in the parking lot though and has excellent food. about 5-8 min walk is another hotel where one can go for breakfast , drinks, dinner and with complementary bus service to the park. Very convenient

They have free shuttle to and fro visitors center and downtown. And if you paid for their service, baggage can be arranged directly from the train depot to the hotel.
