Preplanned itinerary is key since many attractions are open limited days and/or hours. However, with a little planning and calling perhaps, you can have a wonderful time taking in the nearby sites. For example, vineyards may want a reservation but will accommodate walk-ins for tastings; prices also vary. Go early to avoid crowds at Watkins Glen State Park and avoid if you don't want to do many steps which may be wet. Corning and Elmira have museums (like the Rockefeller) to stay cool or Eldridge Park for a carousel ride and miniature golf outdoors! Plus there's Mark Twain's grave and study. The description on booking was misleading - there was just 1 bathroom instead of 2 stated, and there was no washer/dryer. It made no difference to us, personally. The host was extremely responsive to the minor hiccups we had - the keypad lock did not work and the toilet malfunctioned once. The bathroom has a bidet toilet that delighted my Asian heart no end.
