FAQs about hotels in Chiang Mai

The Rose of the North

Located among Thailand’s highest mountains, Chiang Mai is the beloved, idyllic and somewhat mystic capital of the North. Offering more than 300 temples, it is considered one of the most important cultural centres in the country.

Despite being Thailand's fifth-largest city, Chiang Mai still keeps a relaxed and laidback feel. Modernity, trendy shops and boutique hotels haven’t altered much of its picturesque and peaceful atmosphere.

This reputation is partly due to its proximity to mountains and lush green areas, like Doi Suthep Mountain and its panoramic Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple. The Doi Inthanon National Park is 60 km away and comprises Thailand’s highest mountain.

Hotels in Chiang Mai’s old city centre are a popular choice, offering a more picturesque experience, with its moat and older temples. Chiang Mai hotels can also be found around the Chang Klhan Rd, where the famous Night Bazaar takes place.

The city’s nightlife runs along the Loi Kroh Rd, while Ratchadamneon Rd hosts the main Sunday night pedestrian market. Don’t forget to buy an umbrella from Bo Sang and eat a bowl of kao soi.

Whether you arrive at Chiang Mai International Airport or come by land from Bangkok, don’t miss 'The Rose of the North' deals on Booking.com!

We traveled around Thailand for 3 weeks.

We traveled around Thailand for 3 weeks. In Chiang Mai for a week and it was by far our favorite. The people are truly friendly and happy. There is so much to do here Temples, night markets, shopping, massages, fantastic food, found a speakeasy the White Rabbit and a bar called Mars bar, saw how silk is made at Thai Silk Village, stayed at Chi Lai Orchard elephant sanctuary, a must do. My daughter is vegan and we had no problem finding delicious meals for her. We got Sak Yants from an Ajarn, using Where the Sidewalk Ends for travel and translation. It is so reasonable here but quality is not compermised. I would highly recommend staying at Phor Liang Meun Terracotta Arts Hotel. If I didn't live halfway around the world I would going to Chiang Mai annually.

Really lovely blend of city and country side

Really lovely blend of city and country side Lots to see and do Very cultural and diverse Lots of great coffee shops, food and sights Very temple heavy! Good luck fitting all 70 in the old city in! Easy enough to walk around or get a grab or songtow (shared taxi bus) 10-15 minutes from the airport Great overnight trip to Pai but the road is very bendy and may cause travel sickness but well worth it Smile organic cooking class is fantastic £20 pp, 3 courses, pick up and drop off. Main night market is hectic. All the same stuff at others, find a quieter spot!

I really love the vibe in Chiang Mai.

I really love the vibe in Chiang Mai. Enjoyed Wat Khang Bann the most. I went for CAD lantern festival, it was incredible experience. Mae Tang Elephant park and clinic was a good place, I watched VDO from the doctor who works to help elephants there, this place takes care of elephants really well. You can do Rafting here and visit long neck tribe in Mea Tang. Mae Khan Pong Village is a must place, you should stay for 1 night. Mae Chiang Dao is the best place to stay during winter Nov-Dec. You will see the fog sea and panorama view (recommend to stay with locals) The food was so amazing, I tried Northern food. The best Khao Soi is Lung Prakit Kad Kom (Recommended by local) It’s difference vibe. I love Phuket but when I came to Chiang Mai, I love here even more.

We loved our stay at The Grand Napat.

We loved our stay at The Grand Napat. It was away from all the business and close enough to walk to a restaurant. The hotel has a restaurant and pool. Staff are very friendly and helpful. There is so much to do in Chiang Mai and around Chiang Mai. We loved the town. We have not had enough time to experience everything.

We spent 4 days in Chiang Mai, came for the lights festival - lifetime experience! We visited beautiful temples in Chiang Rai and national park Doi Ithanon. So we have to come back to see more of this ancient town which we will do with pleasure! Would not recommend to people with mobility issues, temples have a lot of steps.

Very central and quiet hotel in the Old City of Chiang Mai. Big rooms with comfortable beds and with the option for daily cleaning. Everything was clean and with a nice sofa and a big desk in the room. There is a big parking lot in the back. There is no breakfast area inside the hotel but there are 2 nice coffee places next to the hotel with many breakfast options. Also a 7-Eleven is very close. The staff was friendly and there was always someone available even during the night at the reception.

Namton is a charming little boutique hotel - the staff are all incredibly friendly, and loved the cool traditional Thai design/decor which perfectly fit the old city charm. Perfect home base to explore the city. They were also able to arrange laundry on a fast turn around for quite an affordable price. When we left they gave us a cute little memory of the place. Incredible value for money, loved our stay in Chiang Mai at the Namton and I’ll definitely be back.

I realny enjoyed my stay, the hotel is amazing and has very umique design. It’s located outside the old city but for us it was great because we could rest away from busy streets and relax at the swimming pool with clean water, surroundee by a beautifull garden. The staff was very helpfull and took care of us during out stay. The room was spacious, very elegant with comfortable beds and modern air conditioning.

Nice little boutique hotel if you are coming to CM for a few days. The rooms are pretty much a best and a rudimentary bathroom. The location is great and it is near market, old city and cafes, bars and shops - but is down a quiet street and is quiet.

This is a beautiful colonial style hotel, the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. It is a bit outside the old city, but travel by Grab (the local Uber) is easy and not dear. We had an a la carte breakfast menu which was excellent.
