An old provincial town nestled in a valley between forested...
An old provincial town nestled in a valley between forested hills. Although only a few streets of older houses remain, it has a special significance in the country's cultural history, with a good ethnographic museum that looks dilapidated from the outside but is excellent inside. To the south-east is an open-air country life museum, which looked promising although there wasn't enough time to visit it. Nearby to the west is the country's first Via Ferrata, an excellent challenge requiring about 2-3 hours to climb up, plus the return walk down. What a brilliant place to visit and even nicer people!! I hope I will continue to return for many more years and that I can find the time to stay longer in a future visit. The central town plaza is clean and pleasant with a wide variety of shops and places to eat. There are often public events that add to the strong sense of community.
