Great little town that provides good access up and down the west coast of Portugal. Fantastic coastal town, everything in walking distance, friendly people. Highly recommend A Fateixa restaurant just by the river, awesome seafood friendly staff well worth it. This area of the Alentejo was wonderful to spend time in. An undiscovered place it seems as it was not over run by tourists. Hikers passing through doing the Rota Vicentina. Vila Nova de Milfontes is bascially a Gem . Its Smallish but beautifull , the river estuary as you get to enjoy the high tide and low tide is mind blowing . Beaches stunning and quiet , town side of river aswell as the other side . Ive travelled extensively but this place away from the tourists on the Algarve catches you off guard in a very pleasant way ! Drove up from Faro , avoiding the motorways through spectacular scenery . . Always worth wandering the back streets and stumbling on little Cafes etc .Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The river and beaches are amazing.
The river and beaches are amazing. The color of the river water looks like the Caribbean. We took a boat ride and got some great photos. Lots of things to buy made from local artists and the cafes for a quick bite to eat are easy to find. We grocery shopped and cooked in our accommodation so I can't speak about the restaurants, except to say, there seemed to be many. We had a great stay!Guest review byDenisePortugal
