We loved Sintra! My husband was to move there.

We loved Sintra! My husband was to move there. Terrific gardens at all the major attractions. There are lots of tourists, especially at Penna Palace, so it’s a busy place. Late afternoon, the tour buses leave and it’s not as crowded. We uber end everywhere and Ubers cost less than in the states. The mountains are steep but some people (younger than us) were walking them, we felt safe, everyone friendly, most spoke English and we had some great dinners, we want to go back. The ocean is nearby, like just ten minutes or so away.

Sintra is a magical location in the mountains, surrounded by natural beauty and several ancient palaces that are stunning. The area is a 45 minute train ride from Lisbon, and can be a nice day trip, but there's so much to see that you really need 2-3 days there. A photographer's or nature lover's heaven.

Sintra is obviously a main attraction, but it's more magical after the hoardes of tourists leave. Most tourists come only for the day, and the traffic is a nightmare. Sintra has a good bus network, there is no need to join groups that come on those huge autocars that pollute and clog the roads. I strongly suggest you travel INDEPENDENTLY, enjoying this place at leisure. Please travel responsibly, leaving a small footprint. Do your homework, there's plenty of guidebooks to inform you, and use your legs a little more rather than take a car. It's healthier for you and for the planet, and you save some money as well. Have a good trip!

Sintra is the place to see palaces in Portugal.

Sintra is the place to see palaces in Portugal. The city is set up to accommodate tourists in this pursuit. However, the city is overrun with tourists so temper your expectations about how much you can see as you're fighting crowds everywhere you go.

The biggest disappointment was purchasing an all day pass for two to ride the buses. We were out waiting for the bus early to get to our scheduled time at Pena and two buses stopped but would not make room for just the two of us to get on (no one else was at the stop). It was raining and we ended up having to hike up to Pena in a hurry to get to our time slot. I am still trying to get my purchase refunded as we were never able to ride the bus.

Of course we toured Sintra Palace, late afternoon, less crowded, we bought our tickets online before the trip. We tok an UBER to entrance then paid for transfer for bus to take us up the mountain. Tried UBER on way back but they were tied up, they had quite a few drivers seeing if we needed a ride, we bargained with a nice gentleman who spoke good English, paid 15.00 for him to bring 4 of us down to Sintra center. Its definitely too hard to walk up mountain and down unless you are an active hiker. We ate at DIZTINTO wine restaurant and had wonderful dinner and wine with great servers! Wish we had extra day in Sintra!

As a group of 5 we stayed on a drive through Portugal one night in this lovely boutique hotel. It is truly recommendable! Lovely people, very clean, nice rooms, nice decoration and great breakfast. So all you need. Only thing to remember is that the location is directly besides the famous Estoril race circuit. So there might be motor noise from the race track during the day. In the night it is for sure super quiet as we could experience. We would come again at any time.

This was the best accom we experienced during our stay in Portugal. The service was A+, the room was spotless and comfortable, breakfast was perfect (freshly baked bread!), the laundry service was excellent and fast, the view was out of this world, the location was ideal and parking was so easy (once we got it through to the traffic cop that Casa do Valle offered parking and it was OK to let us through). Would definitely recommend even to fussy travelers.

Room was airy, well- ventilated, and one could open the balcony door for fresh air. Lovely, quiet, view. Bed and bathroom linen were very good. Furniture met all requirements- closet space, room for suitcases, spacious beside tables, mirrors, extra chair etc. Breakfast was excellent quality and the best we had among 4 hotels we stayed at in Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto and Sintra. Staff were very helpful, courteous, friendly, professional and knowledgeable.
