Caminha is a quaint little town on the Spanish border.
Caminha is a quaint little town on the Spanish border. It has the local charm of a Portuguese town. We stayed in an apartment, dined out, and cooked at home. The local farmers market is on Wednesday and Saturday, ideal for buying fresh vegetables, fruit, charcuterie, and bread. The local fish market has bacalhau and fresh vegetables from Tuesday to Saturday. Our favourite lunch place was Trincaria Happy Food Bakery. Their daily lunch menu was great and good value. At the square, we enjoyed Cafe Central for a drink in the afternoon, an the pasteleria on the other side, for morning coffee. Canto do Lobo, with its slow food concept, is recommended for dinner at least once during your stay. It offers great food, great service, really good conversation, and value for money. They also have a huge beer collection, both bottles and draft beer. Easy to move around the town on foot, and several small supermarkets are open until 21.00 during the week. Walking distance to the beach (15-20min). Easy to bike to nearby communities like Moledo or Praia de Ancora. From the waterfront, there are taxi boats to Spain, La Guardia. If you are in a car, it's a 15-minute drive over the bridge, and you are in Spain. We enjoyed walks in the area and around the town and some drives to nearby towns for meals and exploration. If you are without a car, the train goes to every city nearby in the morning and afternoon, and it is only 1.5 hours by train to Porto.Guest review byChristineDenmark - 8.0

Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.Guest review byFredPortugal - 10.0

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.Guest review byJoanaPortugal

The room was enough for one night, I had everythin I needed. The house is old, but it was good to see how a traditional Portugal house looks like. The room was clean, the bed was comfortabe. The are is very calm. It is very close to the ferry or the taxi-boats. I liked the kitchen area although I only made tea for me. It was easy to find. There’s plenty of green areas to relax, with chairs to sunbathe and hammocks. Personnel is friendly, breakfast is nice, and the room was clean and spacious.
