We spent enjoyable 10 days in this apartment. This is actually a half of the house with very spacious rooms, so it is comfortable even for bigger groups as it gives a lot of privacy. There are two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a small living room with a sofa. The house was very clean, did not have a typical Madeira damp smell, so it is a big plus. The kitchen was well equipped, there were some basic kitchen ingredients as spices or oil, which we very much appreciated, so we did not have to buy that. There was a welcome gift in the form of a cake and some juice. We used the washing machine several times and it is kept clean with no signs of mold. The outside terraces are lovely and have a nice view over the ocean and the hills. I would say overall the apartment looks even better than the pictures provided. There was a safe parking space in front of the entrance behind a closed gate, so we did not have to worry about the rental car getting scratched. The gate is quite narrow and it takes some practice to get comfortable with driving through it, but that is a typical madeiran experience. One thing to mention is that this building is shared with the neighbors, so be respectful. The building is close to the center of the village, so there are some shops and bars within the walking distance.

We had a tremendously enjoyable stay and relaxed with a beautiful view of the ocean. The hostess was super friendly and surprised us with a basket of traditional Madeira products and a basket of fruit upon our arrival. And later on she surprised us with an incredibly delicious orange sponge cake. Our stay will remain unforgettable.

When traveling by rental car, location was OK.

When traveling by rental car, location was OK. There was no night life around, restaurants, bigger supermarket Pingo Doce and beach appr 2.5 km away, so in no walking distance considering also the landscape:) Parking was very comfortable at the property we stayed the gate was a bit tight though but considering Madeira very good. The one of 3 sandy beaches in Madeira was nearby in Calheta, also the location is good to access islands middle part or western hiking trails and cities like Ponta do Sol, Seixal, Porto Moniz and Levada 25 Fonts, Fanal forest and Levada Nova/Dominho.

Ok as a base but definitely need a car, as its at an altitude of 450m can be misty at times. Marina close by is easily accessible plenty of parking with supermarket and restaurants. Access to “main” roads less than 10 minutes, 40 minutes to Funchal.

The house is somewhat remote from shops and bus routes and in our view a car is a must. The area is reasonably built up but we found it quiet. The Marina and beach areas of Calheta are excellent and a great place to spend the day; there is plenty of pay parking both on the road and in the two car parks, but as the area is popular these can get full, with very diligent traffic wardens. There are lots of restaurants a short drive away but we tended to cook at home or take sandwiches with us. There is an excellent Continente supermarket along the VE4 heading toward Soa Vicente about a mile north of Ribeira Brava. For other shopping there is the excellent 'Madeira shopping' centre in Santo Antonio.

parking down the narrow vereda is tight but convenient. The vereda continues down to town centre with snack bars. Large dressing area very useful. Good restaurants in nearby Madalena do Mar (A Poita). Hike right out the door along the ridge up to the Levada Nova or quick drive up to Rabacal hikes. The western end of the island is not far and has great hikes with far fewer crowds. Kitchen well equipped for prep and Pingo Doce at the beach very convenient. Carlos was responsive to minor issues we had. Engenho near the beach is very interesting with lots of sugar cane products to try.

Arco da Calheta is a local parish with character, spread out across a steep, hilly valley with narrow, winding roads, facing the Atlantic. Visitors will likely live among local residents and their wildlife (one or two cows, a few chickens & cockerels announcing their presence; cats & and dogs calmly roaming around), although more holiday accommodation is springing up, and Shopkeepers/restaurants are helpful, and often speak English, though not all! The weather is hard to predict sometimes , and can contrast across different parts of the parish: near the ocean , it is more likely to be calm and sunny; further up the slopes you will get more cloud and possibly wind on exposed sections. A visit to a local supermarket will likely mean either hopping in your car or a very bracing workout for your leg muscles!

Arco da Calheta is a very peaceful part of the island with little traffic and mostly locals. There are some excellent hiking opportunities nearby, most notably 25 Fontes, which is a very popular (and therefore very busy) but beautiful trail. Not recommended without a car as even amenities are long and steep walks away and the hiking trails are only accessible with car too. Taxis don’t work here and buses are very infrequent.

Absolutely everything! Although our flight didn’t arrive until the evening, we were met at the villa. I go to Madeira every year for the Levada, Verada and mountain walking so the fact that this property backed straight onto the L.Nova added to my delight. The property was modern, super clean, every facility you could want. It is high above Loreto but trust in your sat nav and the locals. Friendly Bar/cafe down the road with good food. Well stocked supermarket in Loreto. I would definitely recommend this property.

Amazing views, very quiet and peaceful. Our very kind host phoned round restaurants when we arrived late to make sure we could get a booking. He picked an excellent restaurant. The Villa was extremely comfortable. Everything was provided. We will definitely return. The island is increadible and the people the friendliest we’ve encountered.

We have stayed in the full furnished apartment, that had perfectly fitted on our trip. Hospitable hosts Conceição and Albertino were very kind and polite. I can recommend that apartment to stay in your trip to Madeira.
