Tumbes as a region has a lot to offer.
Tumbes as a region has a lot to offer. Many people relate to the beaches but mangroves are a MUST if you are around. The Puerto Pizarro Mangroves can be a good start, but if you can afford it I strongly recommend the National Park Mangroves near the border.
As for the city, the main square is a nice and calm place where to see city life and city activities; Plazuela Bolognesi and the Malecon are nice places to see within the city.
I also recommend visiting the official tourist information next to the main square, staff is kind and helps you all the way. Their map was a life saver.
Most food is seafood, ideal to taste crab and black oysters. Can be hard to find vegetarian or vegan options. Transport is quite messy, be sure to know the car stops location for the different places in advance.

Seems to be the nicest hotel in town. Rooftop terrace is nice. Fitness center has lots of options. Being connected to the mall via the restaurant was a bonus. Also, the pedestrianized street leading to the river is an island of (relative) calm in bustling Tumbes. If you want to stay someplace nice before heading up to the Mangalares or down to the beach, this seems like your best option.

It was an amazing place to relax and arrive in Peru after mi long transatlantic flight.
The hotel is very clean. All the staff very attentive and lovely. In the morning you can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet. They have also a small gym. The swimming pool area is very relaxing too.

Everything was ok. Personal is nice but a bit not welcome especially in a bar.
