Friendly, helpful welcome when checking in.😀Much appreciated! Everything was super clean in my room and the guest kitchen and lounge. Bed was very comfortable! Great shower. Generous continental breakfast included in price! Tea and coffee freely available. I loved the personal touches and attention to detail. Stylish but homely. Lovely outdoor space and good onsite parking. This place is an absolute gem. Perfect peaceful sanctuary to recharge and refresh after travelling from Auckland on route to New Plymouth. Strongly recommend a stopover here on way to New Plymouth especially as ongoing roadwork holdups can lengthen an already long drive from Auckland. I will be back for sure. Good value for money.

Barbara's welcome was friendly and warm-hearted to this beautiful slice of heaven just outside of Piopio. My room was well situated beside the spotless bathroom with its own balcony with access & deck chairs. The large bed was comfy. Breakfast was hearty with cereals, toast & farm eggs. I would highly recommend the homemade damson plum jam... I even got to chat with farmer Leo as he was about to attend to the hungry calves. There was a lovely family atmosphere and I felt very much at home.

Aramatai Gardens could be described as a country cottage sitting between a botanical park on one side and farmland on the other. The park is extensive with ponds and bridges, and many interesting trees and plants. You could spend an hour walking and admiring this attraction. If you stay one night only, I would suggest checking in as early as possible to have enough time to see the park and falls. Bring food for dinner though because there are no food options nearby. You cook breakfast yourself from products supplied by Jill. Homemade brownies are one of the best I ever had. The only minor thing I would suggest is one more slice of bread for breakfast.

My wife and I had a wonderfully relaxing stay at Mels Retreat. The cozy atmosphere made us feel right at home, and the spa jacuzzi and sauna were the perfect touches to help us unwind even more. Mel was very friendly and accommodated all our requests. We loved their home made fresh lemon loaf treat - delicious! We wish if we could stay one more night.

The decking was a bonus. We enjoyed being close to the train track. The trains were very infrequent but they were interesting to watch. Overall a quiet location and only a short drive into town to eat. The staff were very friendly and helpful!

Brilliant service. Very flexible check-in and check-out. Good advice regarding local services. Plus we forgot something at the chalet and it was returned to us by post.

Piopio a nice little town.

Piopio a nice little town. The motel is just off the main road so not disturbed by traffic noise. Having the restaurant along side the motel is a bonus. A nice drive out to the falls which were in full torrent due to all the rain. Very I.pressive.

A small town in a lovely rural area.

A small town in a lovely rural area. A decent restaurant for dinner and a great café for breakfast or lunch. We have often broken journeys from Tāmaki Makaurau to Taranaki or other places further south, here. Great to charge your car while staying at the Fat Owl or by using the OpenLoop fast charger.

Great place to base yourself for either a quiet or adventurous visit to the area. So much nearby really in a quiet yet bustling town. Three hidden gems - The Cosmopolitan Club, Fat Pigeon Cafe and Piopio Berry Orchard!!

This is a small town with a big heart.

This is a small town with a big heart. Our first stop was the Fat Pigeon Cafe for lunch - delicious food with a view of the park. We then walked up and down the two sides of the street, stopping to look at the restored old school bus and poster board, the art gallery, craft shop and op shops before having a hot chocolate from the coffee cart at the other end of the street. For dinner we ate at The Night Owl restaurant- loved the decor, the food portions were HUGE and super tasty,
