Lovely sitting at the beach bar on sun set, cold beer watching the rabbits graze. Had a nice dinner and stay at Stumpers. Lovely place to visit. Central for west coast adventures. We took day trips from our accomodation to things like Punakaiki and Greymouth. Downside we found not many food options to choose from in town itself and gas prices were fairly high.Guest review byCatriona - 10.0

We were on our way to Frans Josef and wanted somewhere to...
We were on our way to Frans Josef and wanted somewhere to break our journey. Hokitika turned out to be a perfect choice. At first glance it didn't appear to offer a lot but after a closer look it's quite a little gem. It's small but offered a variety of good places to eat from pizzas to good pub food (The Regent Theatre Cafe, The Hokitika Sandwich Company were standouts), and also had some very nice boutiques, a bookstore and gift shops to wander through. It was perfect for an overnight stay. Leave time for a stroll in the afternoon on arrival and then the next morning before leaving. The owners were very accomodating when we advised we may need a late check in and also were able to drop us at the airport in the morning as our son had to return very early to Franz Joseph for work.
