Unfortunately it was raining at times and overcast so our helicopter flight to the glaciers was cancelled. We were given a full refund as the weather was out of our control. Nice little town.

We dined at the Landing restaurant.
We dined at the Landing restaurant. Very good, busy and lively atmosphere, with friendly service, many tables were reserved. Big platefuls of great food, so bring your appetite. Easy parking in Franz, as would be expected. Especially after QT!! The walk to the glacier viewing platform from the car-park shouldn't be underestimated for anyone who is infirm or unfit. But it's worth it for the view when you get there. The west coast road is delightful to drive. But note that there was road clearing operations which literally closed the road north of Haast for a couple of hours! Take heed of any warning signs!Guest review byMichaelNew Zealand - 8.0

Great area for outdoor activities with plenty to do and...
Great area for outdoor activities with plenty to do and experience. We did several local DOC walks (i.e., Tatare Falls and Callery Gorge) and undertook an amazing helicopter flight with Glacier Country Helicopters - Pilot’s Choice (35 minutes duration). We arrived in the dark and were greeted with a happy smiling face and a refreshing drink of Kiwi juice and a hot washer. Our room was incredible - so spacious and comfortable. The body products were simply fantastic. The smell was incredible. We ate in the restaurant for our dinners and breakfasts (2 of each) and the food was delicious and the service was incredible.
