The apartment was prefect. It was very clean and towels and handwash were provided and you get a great view from the bedroom and living area and we wake up to a clear view of mount cook the next morning. And although we arrive late at night, we didn't have any problem finding our way to the apartment as the owner was very thoughtful to put up sign along the way near the apartment to ensure guest doesn't get lost. Highly recommended!

Loved the outdoor baths, the whole place was emaculate. Quiet location 5 mins walk to town and 2 mins to the heli hike depot! Great and luxurious place to relax and catch up on washing 3 weeks into our 7 week campervan tour!

The glacier is not reachable anymore.

The glacier is not reachable anymore. The area is roped off from a great distance away. A few years ago we walked right up to bottom of the glacier. The only way to see the glacier now is by helicopter at a great cost.

The glacier area is a wonderful place to visit.

The glacier area is a wonderful place to visit. The weather can be unpredictable so we recommend booking your activities for first thing in the morning, the weather tends to get worse throughout the day.

So much to see and do.

So much to see and do. I will ensure that we spend more time there on our next visit. Highlight was Scenic Helicopter trip to the Glacier flying with Ken from Heliservices. NZ. Make sure you finish off your day with a private soak at Waiho Hot Tubs.

Unfortunately it was raining at times and overcast so our helicopter flight to the glaciers was cancelled. We were given a full refund as the weather was out of our control. We could still do walks and the wildlife centre and movie of the western coast of NZ at the cinema were a highlight.

Nice little town.

Nice little town. Had great views and lits of nice tracks for walking. Restaurants were good and gift shop had nice selection of items at prices better than what I have seen elsewhere. Glacier Country Heli Tour was superub!

We dined at the Landing restaurant.

We dined at the Landing restaurant. Very good, busy and lively atmosphere, with friendly service, many tables were reserved. Big platefuls of great food, so bring your appetite. Easy parking in Franz, as would be expected. Especially after QT!! The walk to the glacier viewing platform from the car-park shouldn't be underestimated for anyone who is infirm or unfit. But it's worth it for the view when you get there. The west coast road is delightful to drive. But note that there was road clearing operations which literally closed the road north of Haast for a couple of hours! Take heed of any warning signs!

I highly recommend 10 Cottages. The view of Franz Josef from my mountain view room was absolutely stunning! Well appointed and spotlessly clean, it is all you need for a very comfortable short stay in Franz Josef. It was perfect for self catering and the cabins are really warm and cosy. Perfect location, 2 minutes walk to the main street and wildlife centre (where you can see kiwis up close, a great experience). Thank you Michelle and Allan, you were delightful hosts! I certainly stay again when I'm next in Franz Josef.

Franz Josef is a beautiful location with an excellent view of the surrounding mountains and we had excellent weather to boot. Check-in was very easy and we were given a detailed map of the village and excellent advice on where to eat as well as the best time to hike to see the glacier (early-ish). That advice was prescient as the mountain and glacier tended to disappear behind the clouds forming. Thank you!

Compact comfortable cabin with amazing views out towards Franz Josef Glacier. Well designed so had all the facilities we needed to self cater for 2 nights. In a field surrounded by a few houses and horses with panoramic views across to the mountains.
