I would definitely recommend this wonderful homestay in Mulu! It was a warm welcome from James, who grew up in this remote place. Authentic doesn't get any more authentic, I think. He explained to us all the things you can do and what to bring for a perfect experience. With Brenda we had a wonderful tour of the large caves and she gives us all the information about the animals we saw along the way. In the evening they showed us a documentary on a big screen about the history of Mulu and the struggle between the locals and the palm oil industry. It was very interesting! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There is water heater, air-cond (although did not have to use it), ceiling fan was working well and provide enough coolness for the room. They changed the towels daily. Basic tea, coffee sachets were provided and electric kettle. The tap water is safe to be consumed. There's netting so you can open the door with no insects coming in. Don't have to worry about food cause there is a cafe there than runs until night time. You can pay with credit card. The stay was inclusive with breakfast and was decent with selected few menus that is enough to keep you going for the morning activity. There's also a souvenir shop that you can buy torchlight,batteries, snacks, raincoat, gloves, adidas kampung. For other things like sanitary pads, you have to go to Mini Mart outside the park (not that far). It is very practical to stay inside the National Park as the meeting point for any activities is just a few steps aways from your lodge. Note: 1. There is no wifi, and little data coverage within the compound of national park. They will advise you to use Digi. But you can always just cross the bridge and reception is fine there. 2. Make sure arrange for them to pick you up at the airport. There's no Grab or public transport. Plus you won't have data or reception over there. Although there is airport Wifi. Locals are so nice, don't worry they won't leave you stranded at the airport.

Our hosts Dina and Robert made the stay memorable and personalised. They offered help including trips recommendations, meals preparation and transfer to the airport. It felt like being welcomed into their home and living with family. We even had a karaoke night! The place is kept clean and there is luggage storage. The home cook meals were made from homegrown vegetables too, they were delicious.

This review is based on the situations in a remote place like Mulu. The stay was good. It's about 1-1.5 km from Mulu national park and airport, so it's in walkable location. The host Helena and Shania was supportive. The room had 3 single beds. Initially I thought it would be a dormitory type of stay. But they have multiple rooms. It is a budget homestay. They prepare dinner and lunch is you ask for. Prices are at par with Mulu park restaurant.
