A spectacular property in the forests with: - gardens that are manicured just at the right level - its own cenotes (you can swim in one semi-open one, not sure about the other ones) - its own cave that you can visit with a (Spanish) guide - a mirador just like in the pictures (only open in the morning and evening, but I'm sure if you asked you could go up during the day) - a bonfire place near the tents - a spa for massages Everything is beautifully designed and so well thought through. A few notes: - When we were there in July, the place was very quiet, which added to the magic. - In my head, I had expected more jungle (could have probably known better with more research). The "jungle retreat" was less jungl-y than a number of places we had come from between Valladolid and Celestun. No howler monkeys, no big snakes, etc. (I don't think) However, we did see a grey fox (!), iguanas and lots of beautiful birds and butterflies. - Because I wanted a full jungle immersion experience, I had booked a tent - they have a lot of "windows" and I thought you would be closer to nature than in a concrete house. However, since we visited in July with 36° C and high humidity, we decided to move to a suite (with AC; the tents have fans only of course). They were absolutely gorgeous (a shower open to the sky! a whirpool! a daybed! two hammocks!) and because there weren't very loud jungle noises at night anyway, I don't think we actually missed out. - The restaurant was great. You can probably drive to Tekit (we didn't), but I'm not sure there are many decent alternative food options there, so you might be a bit limited. - We brought many bottles of water. Turns out this was unnecessary - you get water everywhere. - Communication works via WhatsApp; they were very responsive and helpful. - The staff happily drove elderly people around in buggies. - This is a place to go to for pure relaxation. - The Internet was no problem at all.

A super cool place to stay in Homun. Very friendly owner. Large, green, well kept garden. Comfortable, clean rooms with garden view. Delicious food at onsite restaurant (very quite - not accessible to people from outside). Swimming pool. A great place to spend few days enjoying nearby cenotes.

The Hostal Oro Verde Homún experience feels like being part of the family. Dulce and Aleph welcomed us into their home and shared generously their knowledge of Homún and the special joy they bring to life! All the hostel basics are well-covered. The place is always spotless and the kitchen exceptionally well-provisioned (including the pantry, which they generously shared with us). The family also prepares meals that are more delicious than your average restaurant! We were in Homún to visit the local cenotes, and Aleph had several amazing recommendations that made sure we picked the right ones! We rented bicycles, waterproof torches and life jackets from the hostel, all at very reasonable prices. These significantly improved our experience of the cenotes (especially the bikes and torches). For our final day in Homún, Aleph offered to take us on a tour to three cenotes, including the Santa Maria caves and cenotes. We weren't sure what to expect, but it was an incredible experience that exceeded all expectations. Aleph shared his detailed knowledge about the cenotes and their natural processes, the secret parts of each cenote, and a once in a lifetime mud-bath in the caves! Dulce and Aleph are building something beautiful at Oro Verde, and I cannot recommend more strongly that you take the opportunity to experience it for yourself!

We loved this place. You could almost call it a cultural community center. The attention to detail and love for the environment are remarkable: they make their own soap from their bees, grow the watermelons and other fruits served at breakfast, and if you wish, Adriana will cook up delicious homemade Mexican dishes. And from our Dutch experience it was really: 'Lekker zitten, lekker eten'. We visited the lodge after a trip to Chichen Itza. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised that their daughter greeted us in Dutch! We hadn’t expected to hear our native language here, and she spoke it so well—it made us feel instantly at home. Leuk om van jou zo veel te leren van alle diertjes om jullie huisje! Geniet van het trampoline springen! The host has an impressive knowledge of Mayan culture and the local environment, and because she’s traveled widely throughout Mexico, she also has deep insight into how different cultures and histories intersect across the country. Beyond her work at the lodge, she even teaches local children about the cultural and natural heritage of the area, passing on traditional knowledge and skills to new generations. Our stay here truly enriched our understanding of Mexico. We leave with a deeper appreciation and perspective on this beautiful country.
