Skopje is a mix of everything. They decided to "borrow" different things from different places, in a strange way. Skopje's a strange city - largely because the entire city...
Skopje's a strange city - largely because the entire city centre has been rebuilt after the 1960s earthquake and the fall of Yugoslavia, and is now inundated with vast statues and grandiose buildings (never mind the weird pirate ships in the Vardar River). We love it nonetheless. Everything is maximalist, but the riverside restaurants are excellent and the museums aren't afraid of confronting the horrors and ironies of the past. Just be careful when getting into a taxi ... Albania, Kosovo and N. Macedonia are not countries in which to be naive on that score.Guest review byTomBulgaria

You can walk 2 minutes for the city centre "Macedonia Square", 3 minutes to city museum (old train station), etc. I always walked, which was not at all long. The price is good, considering the location and the inside (truthfully, the same cheap price for every other hostel in Balkans). The stuff (a guy) was very helpful. There is free coffee.
