The ancient site of Lixus is amazing and makes going to Larache worthwhile. The Plaza Espana in the modern town is very atmospheric. There are a few rather run-down hotels in this area. The Medina is quite small and easy to navigate - but it is very squalid. The nearby Lixus ruins dating back to the Carthaginians were an archeological gem, especially when toured with a local guide.
